I have a pioneer arms AK, yes its kinda of cheap, but with a couple magpul upgrades made it more comfortable to shoot. I bought mine as a backup to the rest of my arsenal if the world goes to crap in a hand bag I have something common enough Ill be able to find ammo.

Althought Pioneer Arms changed its trunnion from cast to milled, Still the rear trunnion, bolt carrier, sight block, gas block and front sight block still cast metal. I just finish doing research, because I was debating between the Romanian made Draco and the US made Hellpup. What made me go for the Draco, was because I have a Romanian made WASR-3 and all the parts are forged and the metal on the receiver is well heat treated.

I've watched a lot of cheap/expensive comparisons over the years, in multiple fields. And it's fairly consistent that there is little to no functional difference between the two. They have to start talking about "feel", which will be different for everybody, and "reliability", which doesn't matter much to the occasional shooter, in order to justify the cost difference. Seems most of the expense is just companies charging what they can because they know there are fashionistas who get off on paying more than they need to.

The entire point of AK's is that they're cheap to manufacture and will run in any environment. An expensive AK is like a gold plated fly swatter.
