Matt, manholes are H20 (10,000 pounds) rated. that means they are designed for fully loaded trucks to stop on them. Also, they are made of Ductile iron, not cast iron. for a real challenge get a casting from Neenah foundry, they have castings designed for Airports.

The angle he was shooting it only increased its survivability. Standard .50 cal round has about 16mm of penetration and a AP round has around 26. if he was shooting that manhole dead flat with the standard .50 cal round it would of gone through most likely.

I learned 2 things in this episode of Demo Ranch: 1. Matt is great at tying up manholes and enjoys making multiple attempts at penetration 2. In order to use a manhole as body armor, you must be able to bicep curl 200+ lbs.

The heavier ones we get two guys on. It also depends on where we are compared to the frame. Some of our manholes are 5+ ft out of the ground, so those we obviously get extra hands on.
