I love reading through your descriptions on the process that you put to the music pieces. While Castlevania 3 is my first, it was SOTN that really solidified my love for the franchise. Aria is a close second lol

aw thanks so much for reading them!!! lol I didn't want to get too into the weeds about baroque era contrapuntal writing because I'm afraid people would find it boring lollll. AHHH Castlevania 3 is SO SO SO GOOD one of my faves in the entire series, 30+ years on, imo!!! love the GBA and DS titles to bits but for SOTN everything just came together so PERFECTLY

This was endearing to listen to, and fascinating to read how thoughtful the process to arrange this was. In my musical illiteracy I would never have guessed how complex this arrangement truly was. Also, I loved that you picked this specific piece to represent Aria of Sorrow. The original to my untrained ears mixed the beauty of classical music with a subtle introspective nature and a vaguely menacing crescendo that emphasized well the journey through library halls of a haunted castle. And your piano arrangement played on these strengths. Listening to this made my day.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! ❤️ super happy you liked how this one turned out, as I recall our conversations on Aria--absolutely fantastic game and can totally see why it's your favorite Castlevania, for many other people as well! Love how you described that last final section in the OG as a "vaguely menacing crescendo" because that is just the most perfect way to put it, taking us out of the idiomatic contrapuntal writing to remind us where we are and what we're doing, and that is still a Castlevania title. Once again, another cool little musical storytelling bit SOTN's Wood Carving Partita does not have, and why to me, Aria's library theme is the superior Castlevania library theme hahahaha. As always, love reading your comments, thank you for them!!!

Absolutely stunning work - you say in the description that it might not sound like one of your more taxing arrangements, but the astronomical difficulty comes across to anyone familiar with this sort of writing (you just make it sound easy!) Absolutely incredible clarity of voices, a wonderfully fitting fantasia-esque elaboration in the middle, and masterful shaping throughout. This is a shining example of your unique capabilities as an arranger and performer.

Great arrangement. One of my favorite tracks from Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. Baroque all the way. In the later part it remind me a lot the Goldberg variations from J.S.Bach. Nice work!

AHH thank you so much!!! And wow that's super interesting you it reminded you of the goldberg, I was aiming for Scarlatti at the end but i suppose it could be a bit reminiscent of the triplet variations like No. 20, just not as chromatic hahaha

thank you so much!!!! ❤it really did, didn't it? Strange seeing how Harmony of Dissonance just wasn't at the same level, sound-wise, I don't wanna say it was the composer, as the OST has about the same level of complexity. Could have been a hardware implementation issue that was fixed for Aria a year leater, we'll never know!

@@purpleschala I agree, I think Aria of Sorrow was just an all around better game. I may have a biased opinion though lol.
@purpleschala9 ай бұрын
@@beelzeboost ha no I agree, and I think many would also, Aria felt tighter and just better designed, in Harmony I always felt like I was endlessly backtracking in between the castles and got lost frequently, and I never felt that with Aria. But I did appreciate the weird quirks like the shops only showing up under certain conditions and the furniture collecting lol

Wow, this piece is really complex, you really did a great job, it's wonderful! Castlevania pieces are so great, anyway on the portable consoles I liked more Order of Ecclesia and portrait of ruins soundtracks.I would like that they could go on with those metroidvanias and never stop...but probably people weren't ready at the time as you can see, now metroidvanias grow like mushrooms 🤣 and I am happy with it, but I want the rebirth of castlevania titles with Amane 😢 I loved the 2d style too...
@purpleschala8 ай бұрын
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! ahhhhh i LOVE Portrait's OST so much too, and that they got Yuzo Koshiro for it ❤❤ and yes I agree my favorite Castlevanias are the 2D ones, when they went 3D I was...fine with it, mostly, but it didn't feel like Castlevania anymore 😭 still, I'll be happy if they finally put out a new game, 3D or otherwise!!!
@giulianomarchetti16338 ай бұрын
@@purpleschala yeah, I had the same feelings about the 3d ones...I put all my energy into force myself to like Castlevania 64 for example, but it was another thing(actually the main theme, only that, was very good, some other concepts too), and it was so hard to play because of the camera and commands. Also, the Lord of the shadows saga was completely different, I couldn't feel the Castlevania vibes...but the first chapter was good. Maybe with the netflix anime serie, that is so good, Castlevania brand will resurrect again 💪😎

Nice, clear playing. I remember learning a sinfonia years ago...the e minor one. Trying to make the middle voice sound "right" nearly murdered me. Maybe I should pick it up again. Nice work writing the counterpoint also! No parallel 5th etc. lol. I just wrote a theme and variations and posted it (with baby going around in the background, haha)...if I were smarter I would've made a baroque sounding one, but I studiously avoided going for baroque, even though it's possibly my favorite genre to play/read, because every time I've tried writing something in the baroque style it ended up sounding like a doofus wrote it. BTW...many of your older videos have 1080p resolution. I'd humbly suggest resuming 1080p, since that also improves the bit rate of the audio, resulting in a fuller sound. Personally I can't really tell the difference in audio between 1080p and 4k, but I start noticing a thinning out of sound at 720p. Of course, no pressure, and you have my respect however you choose to proceed. :)

Totally unintentional and dunno how that happened 😭 ah well hahahaha. And good on you for composing a theme and variations, I'll have to check it out!
