Depends on what you mean by "neutered". They're more refined now, in sound and lyrics as apposed to their earlier work that's gritty and raw. Their old sound was also much simpler because they lacked skill and experience, as they've said in interviews. They've got more range, they probably find it more productive and enjoyable to mix it up instead of being one dimensional. Your criticism says more about you than it does their music tbh.
