I mean, that first post literally ends with "the game is still really good and I had fun playing it", they're just saying it's the worst of the Souls games in their opinion. And the other posts have a LOT of pushback. Unfortunately, I can't weigh in on the game myself as I haven't played it, basically because I played Dark Souls and didn't like how the controls felt sort of clunky and janky (for reference I started playing FromSoftware games with Bloodborne and went backwards, so that and Elden Ring are really more my speed) and figured that Demon's Souls was probably going to feel similar.

@@Terrorismogames The only game that I have played in this genre that is slower than DS1 is the original Lords of the Fallen, every other game including DS2 does not suffer from that absurd oddity. I am currently playing DS2 after giving up on a replay of DS1 due to it being so painfully slow.

The remake did a real disservice to the Adjudicator, the Adjudicator went from this gold skinned almost angelic look entity that was born from the culture of the allusive shadowmen, to this ugly discord mod looking creature that held no grandeur or angelic elegance. They also made the iconic fluted set into a generic knight armor, and even though they have the OG helmet in the unknown egress that implies that they thought their design was better, and they didn’t even really put any effort into the OG fluted helmet which was renamed to “Iron Helm” for no reason other than to make their version look better and inflate their ego, using the “Iron Helm” exposes the characters neck for no apparent reason and would make the helm practically useless due to the exposed neck.

This. The remake did a disservice to the original in practically every way other than having pretty graphics. The Storm Ruler fight presentation is the only thing I will praise about the Bluepoint version. I really hope Bluepoint never get the chance to disrespect Bloodborne (my favorite souls title) like they did with DeS.

I think bluepoint games accidentally thought the more grotesque the bosses were the more immersive it was because the setting was nihilistic and dark so it must have scary monsters to face

I platinumed the ps3 version back in the day and had a blast doing so. Then I forgot about fromsoft until ds2, which I think it's fair to say, rates lower on most peoples rankings of souls games than demons souls, but I also really enjoyed

Speaking specifically on the remake here since I’ve never played the original. Demon’s Souls is easily one of my favorite souls games, next to Elden Ring. It’s like my comfort game, it’s super easy to just hop on and play. If I have a build in mind it’s super easy to map out a path and go for it. Sure it doesn’t have nearly the build variety in basically every other souls game, but it’s something. I have roughly 500 hours across 5 different characters, which platinumed the game and still playing.

Interestingly enough, finally playing Bloodborne, I noticed how the research hall in the hunter's nightmare resembled LAtria. They have those little floor markers and such. I’ve only recently finished Demon’s Souls for the first time, but I ran through the PS3 version 2 times and the PS5 version 4 times (3 times, then once on NG+). This game is great, even the original which is a lil jank and the frame rate kinda sucks but I love Demon’s Souls now. I don’t know if I’ll do the platinum on either version (Persona 3 Reload comes out today, I’m BUSY), but Demon’s Souls will stay with me for a long time. Great video!

I can't speak for the remake. But I greatly enjoyed the original demons souls this is where I figured out the play style I like the best no shield 2hand a weapon. Also has my favorite game ost one who craves souls. Only issue I remember is in tower of latria and the valley frame rate would slow down until the game froze quiting our solved it though

Demon souls in my opinion is the best souls game. Probably because it was my first souls game but I’ve beat every single souls game after (except bloodborne) and I always come back to demon souls. I’m on my ninth play through.

My issue with this game is that it is not on pc. I played it emulated, but it had issues. The bosses are not great, but the levels are and I do want to play it again. Ported to pc with added DLC would be amazing, but will never happen.

You had no idea that many people dislike it because it isn't really the case. Demon's Souls is a beloved classic. If you look at critic's reviews or audience ratings, Demon's Souls (both PS3 and remake) is almost the same as the other Souls games. It does better than Dark Souls 2 for sure. This vid is just clickbait. All the Fromsoft games are very close, but people love to compare and this jackass tries to sound edgy while still pandering to a HUGE crowd of Demon's Souls fans. It's like standing in Texas and shouting "I know it is controversial, but I LOVE Democracy".

People loved DeS (2009) and those who didn't are in the minority. The only souls game that is really "disliked" is DS2. Even still DS2 is liked by the majority and is simply known as "the worst souls game" which just means it's most people's least favorite. I despise the DeS remake or as I call it, "the Blupoint version".

The original 2009 DeS is far superior to the Bluepoint remake in every way besides graphics and performance. It's a shame most people will be introduced to DeS through the Bluepoint version and think this is the original vision. I highly suggest playing the original Fromsoftware version if you can. The atmosphere, score, environmental storytelling, enemy/boss design of the original are so much better. Bluepoint missed the entire point of what made Demons' Souls and Miyazakis' vision so special.

Demon's Souls Is amazing, I have played it a ton on RPCS3. Ive just started a new character. But alas, I will never get to play the Remake. Since Sony refuses to allow Demon's Souls or Bloodbourne to be ported to pc. Its pretty sad how PC players are victimized by a console war that we dont even want to be a part of. You made me realize that Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Resident Evil 1-4 and the Metroid Prime series, are a few that come to mind as master classes in map design. I don't want open worlds with tons of open space of nothing, meaningless crafting, I want a fun game. I use the Spencer Mansion, or Boletaria as Memory Palaces, because I can remember those places like the back of my hand. Back tracking became a bad word, but it's meaningless backtracking and non-sense padding (some Open Worlds) that's the problem. I'm fine with wonderful vistas, but don't put something in the game to pad the time. Everything in a game should be like Chekov's gun; it should be there because it enhances or reinforces the gameplay or story, not because it's a new trend that should be added to games because some other game sold well.

Demons Souls known as the worst? Bruh. Were you around in 2009? Once the game caught on, it was incredibly well-received, and had a tightly-nit online community full of people helping each other. @@qwegol1 No, I sorta agree. Like, the Level design and atmosphere in DS1 and Demon’s Souls were peak. BB is still my favorite tho. I feel DS3 had the best bosses, but Elden Ring exaggerated everything that made DS3 bosses good, which in turn made ER bosses a bit dookie. That’s not even touching on the OSTs for both being too similar, with ER genuinely sounding the same for each theme. I truly believe ER is just DS3^2, and it greatly dissatisfies me lol.

@@cnk9822 It’s the worst remakes I’ve ever experienced. Its gameplay is almost completely unchanged despite the original having obvious flaws like the jank barrel rolls. The art direction, sound design and music changes change the tone of the game completely to something closer to a blizzard game when the original felt closer to silent hill than generic high fantasy. They took fromsofts arguably most atmospheric game and completely failed to capture that tone in what seems a very intentional way. The remake comes off as not respecting the original art at all and even messes up lore points with the changes to various designs. Genuinely I’m convinced everyone who doesn’t see these issues either played the remake first /not played the original at all or more likely are just completely tone deaf. If you don’t meaningfully change the gameplay in a remake I’d hope for a visual upgrade that’s faithful or at least fists the gameplay and story. The remake is worse at artistic cohesion and only succeeds in creating a more visually pleasing image. If a pleasing image and a basic port of mechanics is all it means to be a good remake then the demon’s souls remake is fine. If you want something that accurately remakes the art style and tone or a remake that actually stands as a unique reimagining the remake completely fails. It would have been stomachable if they at least did the standard thing these remakes usually do and let you see the original graphics. Edit: Did I also mention they just straight removes 2 tracks from the game completely that both give a huge emotional impact along with the two different credit sequences being replaced by one much less inspired generic one they have in the remake.

As well as somebody who actually cares about artistic consistency and tone. The remake is just awful. It’s in fact exactly what I don’t want in a remake. Something I love fromsoft games for is their ability to make games that have very synchronised gameplay, tone, lore and general art direction. They work amazingly as a cohesive whole. So when you change a massive amount of it so it isn’t synchronised anymore it becomes very apparent and it instantly makes it very hard for the remake to feel valuable to me as it misses one of the core things fromsoft games are good at.

I think you are forgetting why people don't like Demon's Souls. The point of all the souls games is to win through repetitive learning and perfecting the performance until you can finally win the fight. Demon's Souls' bosses are just too easily toppled for them to feel rewarding, and it takes away from the experience in my opinion.

That’s the point of the bosses specifically and for some people. For me personally that’s only part of it and the rest is about the atmosphere, the world and level design and the combat through stages and the shortcut opening etc. the bosses are all good in the other games but other than challenge runs there’s always just a few bosses you have to overcome truly, the run backs are the true challenge- that is demons souls as the core of its design.

@@sinelacico823 The design of enemies across the board has always been terrible in my opinion. There are rarely any situations during my re-runs where I think "oh finally I can fight this one again". For me it has always been about the bosses, so maybe that's where we differ a bit. The run backs are bad sometimes, but the mobs are always put in the same places, so you can pretty much brain-dead it once you have done it twice or thrice. And I do agree that the atmosphere of Demon's Souls is good, but to me the best ones are in Sekiro and Elden ring.

@@azur7362 first point is valid, on the atmosphere though that is mostly subjective, for me darker medieval European fantasy is my preference over Norse and Japanese fantasy. Also there is a massive difference in aesthetic and atmosphere in both the PS5 and PS3 version. Both are great but very different
