I always love this opening, the crackling fire, the narrator, images of Boletaria then the music kicks in. Gives you the feel of sitting round a fire somewhere out in the wilderness being told a story about a cursed land by another traveller.

Same here man. Des was the one title I played after all of the others, and I just love it to bits. The understated yet catchy music, etherial world design and characters (who’s voices always echo which I love) and the bosses. Some aren’t super hard but they are very memorable and a ton of fun. The only bosses that’s a slog/unfun to fight are dirty colossus and the adjudicator. Dc is basic and the adjudicator is a small tower knight, so I hope they revamp their fights a little in the remaster, as well as making dragon god more challenging bc it would suit his design.

If you really think about it, the whole life of souls began here. While there is kings field, Fromsoft took a step beyond it to create Demon Souls. From there it is history in the making. Such high success that many other developers came to use their systems and other aspects to make souls like. Just imagine making something so great that others want to try and copy it. this song is "the slow slow withering" put into tune for me - it begins with the struggle, again and again and again, to try to fight a way out, or to find a cure, but it's beat down and starts over again and again, and eventually the music slows down and becomes like a swirling whirlpool for a while, then goes back to the original start-struggle-die for a while and then it becomes almost hypnotic and slow, like some eerie melody leading you deeper into a forest you don't know. Eventually it fades out and you're completely withered, you've lost it all.

A Remake is a complete construction of the game from zero. Tactical Camper Except it wasn’t bloodborne, not even close (and no, some similar enemy designs and architecture isn’t enough to call it « basically bloodborne ») and « unimaginative » isn’t synonymous with « bad ». Not that dark souls 3 lacks in imagination (deacons of the deep, Aldrich, the painted world of Ariandel given a whole new scope, same for the ringed city, although these two are DLC so I’m fine with not counting them, but even then we still have the profaned capital, Yhorm, the catacombs, the abyss watchers, Lothric, etc). Although as it happened Dark Souls 2 was both.

I love Anor Londo, but Snow Londo is just as amazing, and so is the reveal of the Boreal Valley, and although I genuinely love Izalith (design and atmosphere wise), the Profaned Capital or the ringed city aren’t any less good.

I'm just here wondering if all the commenters here hopeful for the DeS remake (as I very much was) are just as disappointed by Bluepoint's total disregard for this amazing soundtrack.

Not sure about the others, but I'm in your camp. Screw that Remake in so many ways, it's a nice graphic update, but it squashed every last ounce of atmosphere Demon Souls had.

@@Mayhzon Man I totally agree.. And I don't say it just to be a hater. I have so much love for the souls series and wanted to relive my original DeS experience but I feel like they stripped the soul (no pun intended) from it with the remake. The music, the graphics, the sound effects and the models all clearly show a completely different art direction than the original.

@@cbsaulren Feeling the same way. I had hoped the game would be high visuals updated and the 6th archstone added, only. The one thing they feasibly could have expanded upon they chose not to, but that soundtrack and foggy atmosphere were doctored with mercilessly.
