@@hamonthvac It's got a factory warranty Dodge is standing by the warranty , it should of had a straight axle Dana 60 in it instead much stronger than a Ford 9 inch like the old Hemi 4spd cars had years ago. The only reason the Ford 9 inch is used quite a bit is they are cheap & plentiful to buy parts for & use a little less power to turn them verses a Dana 60 but the down fall is the ring gear & pinion along with the axles aren't as strong as the 60 car rear so it can't take as much abuse that & the 9 is used in a lot of dirt track & probably all of the NASCAR teams which really helps as far as parts for racing in high demand which helps keep cost down for the guy who doesn't have big money to invest in a custom rear differential. I don't know why the hell Mopar stayed with the independent rear because they aren't as strong with more parts that can break especially in a car more designed to go straight & not around corners like a Vette or road race car would lol.

Ouch. Stronger diffs are needed for racing! When I was I. high School we built a 10.90 bracket car as the class project. It was a 66 Chevy II with a 283 punched out to 292 cubes, roller cam, 12-1 compression and 1050 dominator. It ran consistent as heel at the 1976 Winternationals at Beeline Dragway in Phoenix AZ! Our biggest co petitor was a guy who bought a brand new Camaro and stuffed a 454 in it, and went racing. Every time we staged we laid down a nice burnout, a dry hop and then punched out a 10.90 or 10.91. We went round after round through the weekend in qualifying and then in Sunday we went round after round consistent as hell! The guy with the Camaro did a burn out, dry hop and then a wheelstand at every launch, round after round. We thought we were going to meet up with him in the final round, but we met up with him for the semi final round. We did our burn out, me holding the right side of the car in the water box, and Ken H, holding the left side. I got our teacher lined up after the dry hop and then jogged backwards away from the launching area. The lights cycled and when they hit green our little 66 arched up and ran away, fast! The Camaro roared, standing up to point at the sun, then dropped and stopped about ten feet from where it left the line. And behind it, sitting there in a pool of gear oil was the differential, lying there in pieces for all to see. Too much torque in too heavy a car for the task without being strengthened. In fact he would have done himself a huge favor if he had used a Dana 60 to Ford 9" rear in that car, but the GM 12 bolt just wasn't up to the task. We ourselves had installed an old OLDs rear end in our car that had seen years of duty in a 57 Chevy. In the final round we went up against another Chevy II, but it being the later body style right before they started calling it a Nova. It also had a big block, but I think it was a 427, a much more reliable engine back in the day. We burned out, dry hopped and staged, as they mirrored our every move. The lights cycled and hit green and our car was off like a rocket, with his slightly behind for the entire quarter mile. But when we reached the end of the strip, visibly ahead of our competitor the win light lit on his side of the track. The difference? Our 10.89 to his 10.93. Frick! Six months forts ending in an breakout. Sometimes you don't want to be faster than your opponent! Lol

Don Garlits was one of the first guys there and his pit security consisted of a velvet rope like they have aIn Bank lines. It was so close to the car that I could lean over and touch the slicks, which I did. Every team set their own standards but you were pretty much free to do what you wanted. Like me, a 16 yr old holding our car in the water box during the burn out. If a 16 yr old or anybody else tried to get that close today we'd get thrown out! Anyway, Garlits comes back to the pits after a tuneup pass and he and his one crewman started pulling the motor down to the point where they could see what was up. Today they tear the motor and clutch completely apart, but not back then. His assistant dropped a wrench so I reached down to pick it up and hand it back to him, just like you would with your buddy was wrenching on his car, but when I did Don took it out of my hand and said, thank you son! No shit! You can't get that close to the big guys today. Another kind of cool thing that weekend, cool for us, not the driver, was that there was a rocket powered funny car running exhibition passes, at just under 5 seconds. A Rocket field car. He was using Hydrogen peroxide and another fuel to fire his rockets. On Sunday, after the first round of competition this guy makes a pass to keep the fans into it. He makes the pass and pops the chutes at the tall end, but the chutes didn't slow him down and all I could see was dust and cactus flying through the air. This dud had just run over 300 mph off the end of the track and out through the desert when the fuel valve stuck open and he couldn't shut the beast down. Those cactus flying up as he plowed through them will always be imprinted in my mind. Totally Wile E. Coyote funny, but not for him. The rescue team finally got to him and he was ok, but the car was a total loss. After that pass the NHRA permanently banned all rocket cars, so all we get today are jet cars. Still quite a show, but no where near as fast!

🕵️♀️ “we must investigate this” - the morons at SRT.. Should’ve simply made sure the entire driveline was rated to handle at least 1000TORQUE & not just the 770Torque.. they should’ve over built the Axels, Dif, & the driveshaft. Instead of just making it so called “strong enough “ for a stock Demon.

Dillion Johnson I understand, but hell just add another $5k to the MSRP when it comes to the Any of these $85-$95k high performance cars. An extra $5k wouldn’t deter anyone in the market for a Demon.. I’m still pissed at SRT for not just adding an extra $2,500 to the cost of every 2015-19 392 car, & just Forge the internals there at the factory (especially) since the 392’s direct competitor the 5.0 Coyote is forged & can hold over double the boost psi the 392 can handle.. Plus it would make great business sense in the long run because thousands of Mustang guys would gladly switch to a 392 if they knew they could mod the engine the same way the do the 5.0.. Keep in mind I own 2 SRT vehicles, & I love them. I just don’t like a number of things they’ve done here of late..

Sad news: we figured this all out 20 years ago with the IRS Cobra Mustang Terminators. If you have an IRS and want to drive it hard: 1) reinforce the rear diff to eliminate movement and deflection. 2) Never wheel hop. If you hop (street or track), don’t stay in it. Get out of the throttle immediately. Abort the run, save your $2-4k diff. 3) Bias ply slicks with tall sidewalls do wonders to help absorb and dampen this driveline shock on the hit. Especially on stick shift cars. I ran this philosophy on my 640hp IRS GTO with an M6 trans and never had a single issue with the stock axles and driveshaft. Hundreds of passes on it. 1.67-1.75 60’ times. And those OE parts aren’t meant for sticky tires and big power. Hope this info hella the community. 🍻 Same principles and restrictions apply to all IRS RWD cars.

Ford 9s and Dana 60 are live axles. The Demon has an independent rear end. You'd have to re-engineer the entire back half to switch it out. The challenges are completely different for an independent rear on the drag strip with 840hp.

19504x4 aluminum has a higher chance to bend under like more brittle metals like iron . Iron is very brittle and can just snap. Look at Rockwell values and Brinell hardness values for the metals . The differential was just poorly engineered to withstand all the force being thrown at the drive drain which I’m not surprised coming from an American car lol

@@SuperNarion123 Honestly for this high power application they should use a better material than aluminum, its got shitty yield strength. They should probably be using inconel or a titanium alloy like Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al, or at least a high grade maraging steel.

My bro bought a 2016 wrangler unlimited brand new. At 13,000 miles he went in for a free oil change/inspection from Jeep before he drove back across the country and they came out and told him is differential was done and probably wouldn't make it back to VA from Seattle. $2,200 worth of warranty work done and he was back on the road. Stock tires and suspension, pathetic.

@Justin Walters funny, his jeep now at 53K miles is having his axle seals replaced under warranty. The inside of his rear wheels were covered in oil.

This might be a silly question, but wouldn't it be cheaper for Dodge to just "right out of the gate" put in a larger diff, in turn, ring & pinion set installed, even after warranty work??? to stave off future failures, or limit failures..??? Or does it factor into "no more room" to fit anything larger then what is already there, meaning, it was under sized from the get-go? Next, it appears, that those housings are cast aluminum, I'm I correct, or is the cover the only cast part in aluminum, and the housing is high ductile iron cast? 2nd next, what is failing, the housing flexing, causing misalignment in the gear set, or are the gear sets letting go, from being pushed past their yield point?.. I suppose, I could look up this next question, but who makes the diff's, is it a DANA product line, or Daimler Chrysler product, or other?... Yes, I am aware of the initial cause of the tension point caused from induced shock loading from the ever clear and present amount of torque from this performance machine, but, the diff brace making the claim that it is helping in a huge way, leads me to think, the housing is spreading open to them cause misalignment issues in the gear track... Although, a stamped metal diff cover is not as cool looking, they are 5 to 10 times stronger then the cast aluminum units. I rock crawl, and I will never use fast aluminum diff covers ever again, unless machined very thick walled, and then heat treated, & cryogenically treated, vs, a stock stamped steal cover never had failed me... Now, I will say, the high ductile iron cast diff covers are tougher then stamped sheet steal covers, but, wow, $$$$$!!! I am just curious, as this is actually interesting what is happening to folks who paid some pretty big bucks for this amazing machine, to have such a weak point, is so shocking... The diff!!!! Is like the 3rd most important critically required, for safety, as many owners, will be simply using this car as a summer car, and less then 1% of that time would get aggressive with it, pretty scary... I hope Dodge steps up to the plate for their fan base... the fan base has for sure paid well for the desired happiness, and to be afraid to drive the car out of fear that the diff could drop out at 40,000 miles, of calm driving, let alone, a racing rig setup, guaranteed to let go... Oh, and one last question, what does this IRS diff compare to of an DANA 8.8 and or a Ford 9.0... I did just try to find some info upon this factory installed diff, and most sites want me to join their forum... Not going to do that, as I don't have one of these units, I am a JEEP guy, and I don't race anymore, I'm to chicken!!! Lol thank you in advance, to any person(s) who takes the time to answer my questions, Dru

@@blackburd english is not my 1st language so maybe i am misunderstood, I'll try to explain. I afree that the car is seemingly not up te spec to literally use at drag strips, but it is advertised as one. Someone before me said that the " car is designed for dragstrips but built for it" I called bullshit, with that I mean that that sentence is meaningless. In a short way, a demon is just garbage because it has 1 strict purpose and that is to dragrace (the car is delivered with extras like small front wheels, apart racing ecu etc...) but isn't even good at it. On a regular road the car doesn't have the traction to get those 3s to 60mph performance. Even shorter, crappy American car, isn't good for anything.
