“Shou-ou-ken” written in kanji is “咲桜拳”. “咲(shou)” means “bloom” in japanese. “桜(ou)” means “cherry blossoms”. And “拳(ken)” means “fist”. So, it's “Blooming cherry blossoms fist”. In the first place, “SAKURA” means cherry blossoms in japanese. In japan, cherry blossoms blooming on spring. So, her name of moves often related to spring. (For example, “Shun-pu-kyaku/春風脚” is “spring wind leg”, “Haru-ichiban/春一番” is first browing strong wind in spring)

Been a Sakura fan every since she was first release been loyal to her every since. Growing up with Ryu and Ken they fought a little slow and basic Sakura was a nice fun unorthodox addition to their fighting style. I love learning how to finesse her shortened/varied range of moves over the years. And last Marvel Versus Capcom 2 hands down has the best music of all time for any street fight, SNK, etc game. As soon as I heard that music I was like wow the composer put a lot into that sounds track.

It's actually funny how Capcom (and SNK) recycled the sprites for so damn long. Currently some people say sprites and 2D animation in general are too expensive if compared to 3D (this never made sense to me)... well, let's say SF6 was made with high quality, 4k sprites, in theory Capcom could recycle these sprites for spin-offs and so on

2D animation for games only got expensive due to the move to the HD era. In the past, you can get away with reusing sprites and cut corners with the details because of the low resolution displays back then. That's why the likes of Capcom fighting games use the same sprites for a very long time and how say, King of Fighters can be released yearly for a long time. Nowadays, you have to draw extra details and frames for the 2D sprites in HD resolution...so now, it becomes cheaper and less time-consuming in the long run to just make and animate 3D models.

@@wchan39 It's illogical to use resolution as the catalyst because we are stuck in the "4k era" for a while... and looking how game development got more expensive, the industry will not jump to 6k, 8k, etc.. not in the foreseeable future. So, let's say the new SNK owned by the Saudi murderers (it's not the same SNK, but let's pretend), instead of appealing to those horrendous 3D models, why not make a smaller KOF game with 4K sprites instead, then recycle these 4K sprites for the next 10 years? They can start with KOF, then utilize the same models in Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, etc.. over and over again. I know 3D models can also be recycled, if one day Capcom returns with MvC, most likely they are going to recycle the models and animations from SF6, but SNK is fighting against titans, if Arc System can barely survive with the best art direction in the industry, Netherrealm as the only legit triple A fighting game dev and Capcom having all their expertise and a efficient engine... I mean, being different, that is the only way SNK can highlight their stuff. Instead, they became memes. You will see, people will compare the Terry model in SF6 with the Terry model in the new Garou game, it will be ridiculous. If Garou was made with sprites instead, that denies a direct comparison and SNK saves face

@RRRRRRRRR33 SNK already tried that with KOF 12 and 13. That didn't work out for multiple reasons. (More like SNK shot themselves in the foot by releasing KOF 12 when it's not ready.) Also, since the move to 3D, there's very little 2D animators left in the industry (indie developments and other exceptions aside). So to make more 2d fighters today, not only you'll have to hire new people, you also have to retrain them from scratch to do 2D sprite animations in HD, which can cost a lot of time and money, then the bosses will be like, "Why not just use 3D? It's cheaper!"
