Hi Jessie, great presentation, when do you use a sequential wrapping, is it safer than single wrap?

Hello Maryann. Let me first make clear that sequential wrapping is done with single sheets of SMS wrap. The technique is aka double wrapping. Simultaneous wrapping can be done with two single sheets at the same time, or one double bonded SMS wrap. This technique is also known as single wrapping. To answer your question neither method is safer than the other. Both provide the same microbial barrier to keep items sterile when storing. Butttttt, sequential wrapping offers a second chance for aseptic presentation on the field. This is to say, if while opening the package, the inner package is inadvertently touched, it is still ok, because there is another barrier to try the aseptic opening and presentation again. This is not to say if a hole in the wrapper is discovered that it is still acceptable. If a hole is discovered in either method, the tray is considered contaminated. Hope this answer your question.

So your information was good up until min 8:58. It is not called second chance wrap, the inside of the 2nd wrap is a dust cover as the instrument inside the first wrap is what is sterile. So by throwing your instrument onto your sterile field with that first wrap still on is a CONTAMINATION.

I disagree. Dust covers are made of 3mm clear plastic. Sequential wrapping is an old school method that increases the torturous path. The outside packaging is still sterile on the inside but if inadvertently contaminated the inside wrap offers the second chance for aseptic presentation.
