Install FoxyProxy, makes it so much easier to turn proxies on and off for Burpsuite or any other setup. It's available for FireFox and Chrome.

When trying to execute Metasploit I kept getting the following error message: Exploit failed [unreachable]: OpenSSL::SSL::SSLError SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=error: wrong version number. Does metaslpoit not identify set RHOSTS localhost with 127.0.0.1? Eventually I changed SSL to FALSE and then it worked. Could you explain why it was necessary for that to work? Many thanks!

That happens because the server isn't running on HTTPS. So you need to tell Metasploit not to talk HTTPS
