A common problem for people who have a right hemisphere stroke is left-sided unilateral inattention. Left unilateral inattention is reduced processing of information from the left side of the body and environment. Unilateral inattention is also referred to as hemispatial neglect, although there is no intentional neglect on the part of the person. Just to complicate the problem, most people will initially have no idea that they have a unilateral inattention. Compassionate feedback will help people become more aware of the problem.
