I have a little criticism about the video itself. If you are going to show the text, please have the entire text visible from the start or sync the text to your speech. The idea of having text appear as you read it so those who listen can follow you better is a good idea, this was just done badly enough that I had to comment on it:o I like your stuff, keep it going:D

download full movie. extract audio. patch it back up adding 5 seconds. reupload. problem solved.

Agreed, I wanted to read along because flowery language is a little harder to follow, but the text wasn't there as he was speaking it.

Hello! You can easily google a paragraph and find online the full text, which you can read while listening to the audio. www.emersonkent.com/speeches/the_third_philippic.htm

Great text. Does indeed seem relevant today.

I like that you are adding text with speech, because I know from personal experience my understanding and comprehension is multiplied when they are combined. But please, do sync the appearance of the text up with your voice if you can, otherwise it will actually distract from the speech.

Damn. I need a time machine so I can go back and give Demosthenes a mic, so he can drop it at the end there! Do you still have GamerGate's time machine, Sargon?

Wonderful, I love hearing these readings you do, hearing about the strife of the past is truly interesting and eerie, one theme I am starting to realize from there readings is that we humans seem bound to repeat the mistakes of our ancestors.

I love these historical insights :) Would love it if you did a series on the broad historical overview of the world over the last 13,000 years or so with critical insights on how the mechanics of religion have evolved and exerted it's influence socially and politically. Have you read Jared Diamond's, Guns, Germs and Steel ?

Yes, and that'd be a big job.

Ancient Recitations but worth it, one of the difficulties with learning about history is how all the pieces fir together. History lessons at school were shite because everything seemed so disjointed the way it is usually taught and lots of stuff is missing from the curriculum. I heard to learn about Machiavelli decades after school for instance. Perhaps the first episode could be covering the broad strokes touching on the major events like a list of contents of a book with a bit more detail thrown in, if you see what I mean. Anyhow, whilst you're here :D re. your discussion with Gad about the lefts ideological & religious overtones (mechanics of..) I have noticed that whilst many declare themselves atheists there does seem to be rather a lot of them that go in for some of kind of pantheistic homeoPathetic new age super woo woo, which are basically diluted religions with very similar poor thinking habits, arguments from authority over evidence etc. No one is discussing this and I wonder what the proportion of individuals among the left that lean towards the super woo and how much of an impediment it presents in this equation... All the castrati I know personally tend to have strong super woo leanings Anyhow, I look forward to your thoughts on both subjects, Cheers and best wishes :)

I don't know if "demagogue" is even a fair title. His assessment was completely right, and Philip won.

Ancient Recitations Diogenes liked taking the piss out of people. he would stand in lectures just to interrupt them. He was the original troll. That said his cynicism limited his vision. He would live in the moment, not the future as he couldn't be bothered by it.

I don't know, read the entire Third Philippic. Your description sounds counter to the entire speech. Although I'm sure he was a troll, but then, I like that in my orators.
