Ever wonder what AI is really all about? It's not just robots taking over the world (yet)! Let's peel back the layers and understand AI!
The first AI programs were developed to perform tasks such as playing chess, solving mathematical problems, and simulating human reasoning. Progress in AI faced significant challenges during this period, leading to a downturn in funding and interest known as the "AI winter." The limitations of early AI techniques, such as symbolic reasoning and expert systems, became apparent, and progress slowed. Advances in computing power, algorithmic techniques, and the availability of large datasets led to a resurgence of interest in AI.
Machine learning, particularly neural networks and statistical methods, gained prominence as powerful tools for solving complex problems. Applications of AI expanded into areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. The 2010s saw a dramatic rise in the capabilities of AI, driven in large part by advances in deep learning, a subset of machine learning that uses neural networks with many layers. Deep learning enabled breakthroughs in areas such as image recognition, speech recognition, and language translation, surpassing human performance in some tasks.
Today, AI continues to evolve rapidly, with ongoing research focusing on areas such as reinforcement learning, explainable AI, and AI ethics. Join our Co-founder & CTO, Dr. Ananthakrishnan Gopal on a journey through the history of AI in this video, where he demystifies the technology for all viewers.
