I have been working on all the fundamentals of the CAGED Chord shapes and positions and matching them to Pentatonic and Major, minor scales and arpeggios, so I can't say most of what you said was new to me. BUT this is by far the best comprehensive, conceptual explanation I have seen. It came at a perfect time for me and has several "Ohhh now I see it moments". I will definitely incorporate this information into my practices. Well Done!

This is THE best explanation of the CAGED system I've heard. I never understood anyone else's explanation or the different shapes creating the same note! I'm still lost on the minor shapes or the best way to practice these. Maybe a song using the these different shapes? Thank you. New subscriber here.

I"m glad you found it helpful! First I would practice the major chord shapes using the exercise at the end of the video. Once you've got comfortable with that idea you can do the same exercise using the minor chord shapes. If the minor shapes are new to you It's worth learning them in isolation first so you know how to play them (you can do that anywhere on the fretboard). In terms of songs you'll probably see the Em and Am shapes used most often, with the other three being somewhat rarer. It means that learning the minor shapes is a bit of a memorisation exercise, but it's useful to know them because it will help you understand how the minor chord shapes connect to the minor pentatonic scale. Once you've memorised the minor shapes start matching the root note of the minor shape to the landmark on the fretboard like in the first exercise. If you need diagrams they're all in the lesson pack, let me know if you have more questions 🙂

All CAGED Chords are utilised in ‘Hey Joe’ and also introduce the circle of 5ths, pentatonics… the list goes on. Hope that helps.

As others have said here, this is probably the most comprehensive lesson on the CAGED system I have seen. Most presentations don't even go into related scale shapes or minor chords much less how to add the 7th. Great job!

Absolutely amazing lesson. I was hesitant to watch this because I "know" cage, but you really cemented some ideas that I had only stumbled upon and some I had no idea about. This channel will have a lot more views soon. The best explanation of CAGED and why it's useful out there. Just the simple idea of having multiple ways to go once you identify the root is something you never hear explained as to why the shapes, scales etc. are all connected.
