so, gotta ask my man, how do you feel the difference in playing a 6 string dropped digitally, rather than a more extended range like an 8 string? i have small hands so my multiscale 8 string can be hard to hit the right chords sometimes perfectly and i sometimes feel i should just get a sick 6 string and use my drop pedal to reach the tone im going for. but at the same time, there are more chords and areas to utilize in an 8 string with a long scale. i feel like more options on 8/7 strings. but you are one of the KINGS of this. how do you feel about my problem??

Personally - I don't see any use for 8 strings unless you want to shred or be able to play 6-7 string songs on it as well without changing guitars live.

This isn't a 6 string dropped digitally though, this is a baritone scale 6 string. Maybe that's what you should be looking into.

@Tarkenton yeah I guess I should have been more specific. I meant in general. baritone or not, he as well as buster for example utilize automation/whammy a lot. even with a 28" low end on my 8 string I find myself doing it. so I've been thinking lately of going to a 6 string, which I haven't played in over 20yrs now. always been 7 string and up. I was kinda wondering if there were other reasons he preferred 6.

@Calle Thomér that makes sense. honestly, I don't spend any time playing other people's music, just writing my own. so I could just write it all on a single guitar if I wanted. also my music isn't near as complicated as what you write, so I've been wondering why I bother with all the extra and giant fretboard haha I think I will look into a good 6 string soon, because I still use automation/whammy even with my 7/8 strings. thanks for the reply!
