@jamesartell , The site is off limits now as its privately owned, plus the fact of the good old "Health & Safety" etc, it is presumed to be haunted, and if you look at it now you can see why, broken windows dark grey exterior, its a huge place!

The Hospital is still standing yes, but there are a few buildings which have been demolished, and the main Hall went on fire! Or was set on fire!

I'm not sure why there is such objection to the building being made into homes for people. Everyone needs a roof over their heads. If it was a half way house providing independent living for those with mental health issues that might demonstrate how we have moved on. There are many examples of former "Bedlams" being turned into apartments - some are very swanky and expensive and others are council flats - the history doesn't seem to bother the residents.

My friend spent 6 years being tortured there and was then put in Borstal until he escaped. What awful bastards they were.

I know a man who as a boy was confined there and was shocked as a form of aversion therapy. He went on to become a very successful man in spite of these bastards. He still can not talk about it without going all wonky. The staff were horrible, ignorant, cruel, criminals.

Was there today - 3rd May 2010 - Police patrolling as is their job - no private security- cos they are shit - the owner of the site is the only real criminal.,since we all protect it etc against vandals n arsonists such as the owner- a known criminal.

Wasn't a place for the mentally ill. Was a place for people who were dumped by their family or community. Shy people & Women who never had children were deemed morally insane & Lobotomies were performed to damage the nerves in the frontal lobe of the brain.
