DENIED? Public Service Loan Forgiveness HORRORS

Im a teacher from New York. A certified student loan specialist suggested me to apply for public loan forgiveness program. However, they charge $700 to complete the application. I though it would be less because they came together with the teacher union. I'd like to apply myself and avoid unnecessary expenses.

I’m a firemen for my local county, paying under the IBR plan. Does this qualify? Also, isn’t it strongly suggested, but not required, to file the yearly paperwork?

It is not required but strongly suggested to file the yearly paperwork. From what we understand, police and firefighters are eligible.
