This is what Riki always did. If he didn't like a band, he would do zero research and ended up looking utterly clueless. I realize there was no internet back then, but I'm sure he had a way to learn even the basics of Voivod. That was one thing Adam Curry actually did - he'd read the album's lyrics and prepare educated questions. He was a dork too, but at least he came across as somewhat knowledgeable in his interviews.

@warshipsatin8764 I knew plenty about them at this time, so info was out there if you knew where to look. Riki could have asked friends in the business if they knew anything about Voivod and he definitely could have played the album at least once (and taken a look at the lyrics for that matter). MTV could also have been smarter about this and perhaps had special episodes with a different host when bands came on that were clearly out of Riki's lane. Something like an "all thrash" episode with someone like Bobby Blitz hosting could have been awesome.
