Used to "sing" Galloping home when I was riding on the back of a huge lion toy I had. Homemade bridle. Jolly Tramp was the main horse in the series and I was lucky to see him while he toured the UK. The barn was dark and the music started up, the doors opened and there he was, so black and shiny he looked blue I cried A few years later I did the same while riding my own beautiful horse Treasure. SUPERB! I was a part time stable boy in 1972 and looked after 'one' of the Black Beauty 'extras' as they used several for fiilming with appropriate 'make up' to make the blaze and other markings identical. I was only 13 but this made me VERY popular with the girls at school who were very keen on horses in our area! I have loved this amazing work all my life Im now OLD and still play it! Without even SEEING the intro to the series it is so evocative of a galloping horse thundering across the fields and meadows. It's a majestic theme and the most moving theme tune I know. It always had my mother in tears when I was young and has me in tears now I'm older. I get the same feeling from Churchill's speeches It seems to represent something like the triumph of goodness, a sense of the world as it ought to be, but which it so often isn't. It is something we take for granted when we're young, but doubt so often as adults. This tune reminds us to keep that spark, that will to always strive for goodness, alive whatever the price is we have to pay. Dear Mr King, Good evening Denis. I fondly recall many TV theme shows, with the themes that you composed during my younger years in the 70's onwards, including the beautiful 'Black Beauty' theme. Many BB episodes had a 35 second intro piece of music before the main theme started, and this small piece was also just wonderful. We've never met but may I say 'Thank You' for the memories that these tunes still provide today. Music has always been in my life, reaching Violin Grade 5 by '79' when I left school, more recently I am a self taught Yamaha keyboard player. The world may have changed over the decades, but excellent music stays with us always. Very best wishes to you :)

Denis King is one of my icons of the 70s. In addition to writing this classic, he was also on the Radio 4 comedy show ‘Hello Cheeky’ (with Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer and John Junkin) as the resident musician, with The Denis King Trio. He even sometimes took part in some of the regular skits, and proved to be quite the comedian himself. I remember him announcing himself once as ‘Hi fans! Denis ‘Why Don’t They Give Him His Own Show’ King here!’, and I used to think, ‘yes, why not indeed!?’. I remember watching BB on Sunday afternoons at my grandparents’ place, and not wanting to leave to go home until I’d heard the entire closing credits, all because of this brilliant piece of music, and the evocative visions of that beautiful creature galloping so gracefully through the meadows and the stream; what a perfect match. Denis was absolutely right here; a piece of music either grabs you or it doesn’t. This one grabbed me, and still has tight hold more than 50 years on. Thank you, Denis! You rock, Mate! And thanks for putting it out here on KZbin, with the visuals, to bring all those great memories back!

Dir Sir, My father played the piano very well. My brother even became a professional piano player. I never had the patience to learn the piano. BUT I was about 8 years old and totally crazy about horses when not few boys were and I still am as you can see on my thumb photo. I was absolute addicted to the Black Beauty tv series. I taught myself the Black beauty tune by listening and trying out the keys on the piano. It is the only song I can play on the piano. Still today in my fifties, when I see a piano or people ask if I can play the piano, I do play your theme song. Great to see the man behind the theme. You indirectly have had an influence on my life for almost 50 years now :) Thank you for this great melody which I will carry in my heart for as long as I live.

This music is up there with Elgars Nimrod. In the top few most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Driving around country roads with this playing is exhilarating. Thank you so, so much for your music.

I watched Black Beauty as a child and loved the theme as much as the program. It brings back so many very happy memories to hear it once more. You have created an iconic melody, one of the best orchestral themes for a program. I now play violin and wonder if there is sheet music I could play? I’ve been lucky enough to ride for fives decades now. Thank you deeply, Mr King!

Thank you for making this music. I was watching the show some 40 years or so ago, in France, with my cousin. Nowadays, listening to this theme, it makes me cry and brings back so many memories! Thank you, Sir!

I grew up in the 70's and this theme was what I most looked forward to when this program started. I hated it when the re-runs cut the title sequence and therefore the playing of the theme... One of my favourite childhood memories. Thank you Denis King!..

In Belgium we've got "delayed", and only got to see that show around the late 70's... This piece moves me to tears every single time... It is such a powerful and poignant theme... It did then, and still does now... Thank you Denis.

Wow Denis job done indeed. Fantastic emotional and moving theme that embodies the power and grace of a horse. I always thought it was an excerpt from a classical work.

When I hear this beautiful music, I'm transported back to my childhood, and what I was doing at that time. This is a triumphant ,Victorious and stirring piece of music that just generates a powerful emotional feeling of sorts. Love it.
