Yes! That’s how you know that person is not canadian. My country, especially quebec, is very secular. There is a clear distinction between state and religion. Religion here is something private that don’t really have a place in public space. And btw, that’s what makes it so great! You are absolutely allowed to be spiritual, you’re just not allowed to hold it over someone else’s head and make laws on religious basis.

Blade Runner 2049, the best science fiction movie of the 21st century. No other SF movie has so thoroughly explored the issues that will be humanity's central concerns over the next 2 decades: overpopulation, pollution, resource scarcity, space travel, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering... And it does so in a beautifully cinematic, thoughtful, and emotional manner. A true masterpiece.

I would say his biggest quality is that He knows how to pace a movie. You know, he can make a movie around 3 hours and it won't bore you. I agree. Well it will win a lot of awards, i'm sure of it, but when it comes to the Oscars, we'll have to wait and see. Speaking of which, when it comes to the Oscars, Stanley Kubrick didn't get much love either. He won 1 Oscar... For special effects on 2001... The maybe best director of all time, wins 1 Oscar, for special effects... Let that sink in. xD Yeah i don't really take the Oscars that seriously anymore. It's circlejerking. But if anything, Blade Runner 2049 must win best cinematography, or else there is no justice in the world, and the movie must at least be nominated for best director, best production design and best supporting actress (Sylvia Hoeks).

S Oropeza RJ does his films out of love too he doesn’t just have a film come out every year with little to show for it. He takes the time to write and steer all films he does. Star Wars was the biggest jump st it career move for him because know he can do bigger projects he would feel comfortable with just like Denis. They have great filmographies before making the jump to big budget land. Some may not like TLJ but I think he set some new fresh ground in what was getting stale

I do not agree with you. Rian Johnson demonstrated his incompetence to handle something like Star Wars. He sold to the mouse and made a really stupid movie that had no sense, plot and even less respect for Irving Keshner's legacy. I read an accurate description somewhere saying "Blowing up shit and killing everyone is easy, Johnson didn't even try to make anything fresh or transcendant". I am sorry, but fan or no fan, TLJ is a very very stupid movie and makes EP I-III look like good movies... Denis is in another league completeley!

I work as an artist, and I cannot even start a project if my heart is not in it... respect to Denis Villeneuve... a true artist. A truly breathtaking film. @Carlos Saraiva srry to say, but the two latest jedi were trash

@Carlos Saraiva What kind of argument is this man lol 🤣. I could flip your script and say the same. The force awakens was better than the last jedi. Intriguing, common sense, better story plot, interesting questions , novelty, less gimmicks, characters made sense, even special effects were way nicer.
@petruandreescu9915

@Carlos Saraiva and movies are an escape from the real life. To enjoy and feel emotions that we may not feel in our day-to-day. Movies are not supposed to be wtf moments or a feeling like a waste of time. The last jedi and Solo were not up to par to standards we are accustomed to from this serie. They were trash. Could have been better, but w/e now.
@petruandreescu9915

@Carlos Saraiva Directors can do whatever they want with a movie that does not have an history. Don't try to change the whole thing to suit you view without following what was already done in the past. You can always add your touch, but just don't do some 180 degreesi change. The force awakens was nice because it could start anew with a bit of follow up. The last jedi had to follow some sense from the old ones because it used characters and part from old. It did not add and, in addition, it added nonsensical scenes. Don't change for the sake of change.

Marcel Mansour can you stfu bro? You know nothing about filmmaking, just throwing overused words around to describe everything. 2049 is nowhere near a masterpiece. Its ideas have been done before and the storytelling could've been a lot better. It's not in the same class as the original, which is a masterpiece. WW was average, and just because there are vaginas involved that doesn't mean it's any better otherwise. The acting was awful at times and the ending was generic. Gerwig made a great movie, the script was nearly flawless, but the movie played it very safe and felt very preachy/agenda-driven at times. The movie was an outstandingly-acted cliche.
