I LOVE 💕this idea! The plastic baggies in a large Tupperware container with dryer sheets! You are so amazing! I’ve learned so much from you! You are the most knowledgeable and helpful Wig Sister of all! Seriously! 🥰 **Somehow my wig collection grew to about 100+ wigs. I don’t know how this happened! 😱This is truly a space saver! Right now I have them all stored 2-3 per box, in no particular order, all mixed up, in two separate closets! This is my New Year’s resolution, to organize all of my wigs. Make four piles, keep, sell, donate, or trash. Then put them in the baggies, alphabetize, and store in Tupperware containers. Thank you so much! ☺️

I am now 78 years old, but when I was about 20, I got a very bad, extremely short haircut that I did not want to be seen in, so I decided to buy a wig. I got a human hair wig that was a lot of money as I was earning $1.00 per hour and the wig cost $100.00. (1965) I did not know anything about wigs, so I wore it every day for a year. I put it on a wig-form every night and put it on every morning to go to work. It was never touched at all. I never combed it or washed it. It was more or less like a stiff helmet and it looked fantastic. I never noticed any kind of soiling inside the wig, maybe here in cool Canada we don't sweat at all? It looked exactly the same one year later as it did the first time I got it, freshly styled and with lots of hair spray on it direct from the Salon where I bought it and had it cut and styled... I think when I sold it later I got a good price for it. In those days it was nearly unheard of to wear wigs. What a story when I think of it now... Now that I am about to be 78 years old with pure white hair that is nearly all gone... I wonder how it will be when I get my first wigs on order now? I can't wait, but hope I will feel okay to wear wigs now. Two are human hair and one is Synthetic.

Yeah… I wouldn’t put the dryer sheet in there. They have scented oils in them, that stuff can be damaging to synthetic fibers. The unscented varieties contain ingredients you don’t want on synthetic fibers, because they’re not going to keep them looking good. Like this… This is the ingredients to Bounce unscented sheets: Polyester Sheet (Polyethylene Terephthalate), Cationic Softener (Dialkylester Dimethyl Ammonium Methosulfate), *Softening Agent (Fatty Acids, C16-18 And C-18-Unsatd),* Process Aid (Bentonite).

I don't store my wigs on styrofoam heads anymore, either. For the exact reasons you listed. The collapsible plastic or metal stands help the wigs air out better, a plus, imo. Even though the collapsible metal ones aren't as tall, they are easily taken apart for travel or storage w/o breaking easily like the plastic ones. I am able to store my wigs in their boxes, space not an issue once I donated clothes in my closet I never wore for wigs I do wear ;) Like your plastic bag storage idea......more room for more wigs....what's not to love about that?! Thanks for great review.....congratulations on the weight loss. You're beautiful inside & out. 🤗❤

Great tips Denise! I had bought a bunch of plastic shoe boxes from the container store to store my wigs and wish I had put them in ziploc bags first. They took on the smell of the plastic and it was pretty strong. Now I keep the boxes they come in and store them in the original box. Lesson learned!

I wonder if there's a good way to add pictures? I'm thinking either printing on paper, a Polaroid camera or finding a place with cheap prints. I'd not remember based on names of wigs. I'm just getting started into wigs and was just thinking about this issue. I went a little overboard on Amazon shopping for cheap wigs and the fantasy hair, so i have some long ones that I'm probably not going to wear very often and they're taking up a lot of space on plastic wig stands. To the point, I can't take care of clothes the way i used to, lol.

This was so helpful, Denise! I don't have that many wigs at the moment, but I always keep the ones I have in their boxes. I really need to just sell some of mine since I'm not happy with them and never worn them. I haven't been happy with one since I purchased my Gabor Soft and Subtle years ago. I finally stopped wearing my Jon Renau Emilia a couple of months ago because she got so frazzled on the ends. Those were such long-wearing pieces. The only thing I didn't like about Soft and Subtle was the amount of permatease, so I just don't allow myself to try her again. I really love the idea of the smaller clear storage containers. I have a spare bathroom closet (walk-in) upstairs where I keep my wigs (in their boxes) and just may do that to take up less space in there. Thanks so much for the suggestions! You're the best! God bless you! By he way, I love your shirt! 😊 💕

I'm so glad it was helpful! What a bummer that you have been struggling to find one you love for so long. I know what you mean about Soft and Subtle... it is definitely one that kind of surprises you with the permatease. Hugs and I hope you find something that knocks your socks off soon!

Great ideas. I don’t have a lot of storage space in my apartment so I cannot keep them in their original box or put them in plastic containers. My only option that may work for me is to put them in a zip lock bag and hang them using a clip on a towel rack mounted to the wall in my closet. I am new to wigs and I hope this is a good idea. Thoughts?

How long do you keep wigs in “current rotation” before putting them away for longer periods of time?
@heywigsister3 жыл бұрын
Great question.... there really is no consistent or specific time. It just depends on what I am in the mood to wear. Some wigs stay hanging there for a month or more, depends on how lazy I am and how much my space is overflowing. In a perfect world I would only keep a handful of wigs out and put the rest away, but now that I am not working out of the home, I often change my wigs multiple times a day, lol.... I often don't have a wig on at all and then throw one on just to run an errand or try to look presentable when my family comes home from work and school (sometimes, often I just have no wig on at all when everyone is home). I think the bottom line is to keep your wigs protected as much as possible to prevent drying out or getting too dusty/dirty.
@heathersword70433 жыл бұрын
@@heywigsister I’ve often wondered about timing. I’ve noticed you mentioned before that you keep a spreadsheet to help keep track of how often you wear a wig to help with when to wash, etc., so I wondered if you had a specific schedule for rotation that you felt gave them a longer life, etc. This is helpful to get an idea of what others do. I’m learning a lot and really appreciate your videos!
@heywigsister3 жыл бұрын
@@heathersword7043 I really don't.... I am so blessed to have a lot of wigs and so I rotate a lot. BUT, early on that was not the case and I would wear one or two a lot and they seemed to do fine. I think the main key is that wigs that are above shoulder length and do not rub on clothing will last the longest. The shorter they are, the longer they last. I also think a HUGE key is not to use much product, if any, on them... the biggest negative about talking to a reviewing about how to make wigs last is that most of us are comfortable wearing lots of styles and we have lots of them so no one wig sees a lot of wear. I have seen many talk about this. I do have a few that I have worn A LOT, though.... and the common theme is that they are all chin length wavy bobs that can take a lot of wear and look better when they are a little messy/dirty so you can get away with them being dry as they get older. I'm not sure if that helped at all but feel free to keep asking questions.

Hey wig sisters! This is a question not so much about storage, but drying... I hang my curly wigs upside down using a laundry hook, but can I do the same with straight styles? I haven't because I fear it might make them too poofy, especially on really sleek styles like Nolan, Cafe Chic or Kai etc... Any advice on this conundrum would be greatly appreciated LOL
@heywigsister3 жыл бұрын
I hang my straight wigs upside as well, although I don't have many of them. I think if they have a lot of permatease it might make this a little poofier, but not too much and it does setting when you wear it. I just like giving gravity a different pull on wigs at times.
