Integration should be demanded 100% but assimilation should be a personal choice. When people move to another country they should follow its rules and laws and use its language in public life. But that doesn't mean they should forget their identity, customs, religion and language and assimilate into another society. If they want to, no problem with that, but that should not be a demand. Problems arise when masses of immigrants flood other countries and reject even to integrate let alone assimilate into their new home. That slowly leads to inevitable tensions and conflicts, not only from prejudice-fueled far-right but from ordinary people as well.

Islam belongs in Islamic countries, not in Christian countries, not in Hindu countries, not in Buddhist countries, etc. Intergration means you conform to the ways of the parent country, not you coming in to convert or subvert the ways of the parent country to your ways. Nor to abuse the goodwill of the parent country's people to guilt-trip them into compliance of your values over their own. This is abuse and and insult, contrary to the purpose of intergration. Every parent country knows this golden rule since ancient times; " Respect the ways and customs of others, treat first your own ".

Their quality of life isn't stellar. In Denmark, there is a need for improved support for mental illness, alcoholism, and concealed domestic violence. The rates are alarmingly high compared to the proclaimed standards. The issue does not lie within the immigrant population. Scandinavian countries need to refrain from blaming immigrants for their societal problems.

I’ve lived in Denmark (Copenhagen ) for a few years. My experience with the Danish is that they are very direct with their views on anything and everything, personally, I prefer it. Once, I was queuing at the passport security check at Kastrup airport, and I noticed a man was arguing with the security guards, he refused to unveil his wife’s burka to the officer at the passport checking desk because the officer was a man, the husband demanded a private room and the presence of a security woman for his wife to lift the veil, one of the security guards then said to the husband ‘We don't make difference between man and woman in this country, and because you are now on Danish soil, so you obey the danish law or you can take the next plane back home’. I must say, I was glad the security guards stick to their principles.

There was a similar documentary I watched on Denmark's issues with some Muslims about a year ago. One thing that came up was a local politician talking about how Muslim parents were demanding that schools stop serving pork dishes in their cafeterias because they didn't want their children even in the same room as pork. The politician said that, that was pretty much the last straw for him and made him heavily against any more Muslim immigrants. He was disgusted that they were basically guests of Denmark and they had the nerve to demand that the Danish change their lifestyles and customs to accommodate them.

Clash of cultures is a real thing. You cannot ignore or minimize major conflicting interests when attempting to integrate humans any more than with other animals. You cannot expect lions and lambs to ignore each other just because you think it would be NICE for them to GET ALONG. Most cultures have perpetual ideals that will not necessarily HARMONIZE. As a matter of fact, regardless of them mentioning far right here, the difference between Denmark and Sweden for example, was a timely and rather obviously rational understanding of our center and center left parties that not listening to the people's concerns, will inevitably lead to the rise of far right extremists. When I lived in the Middle East , in one of the less strict countries I went to register my civil marriage in their version of City hall. It was summer and it was close to 40 degrees during the day. I approached the building wearing a Polo shirt and cargo shorts with socks and shoes ; upon arriving at the front gate I was told I could not enter due to my shorts and had to drive home change and come back to register my marriage . My point is, in their countries they decide what can and can’t be done and you have no say so why should it be any different in Europe ? Also it is extremely difficult , almost impossible for somebody to become a citizen of one of those rich Middle East countries no matter how long you have lived there, yet when they come to Europe they expect full rights and citizenship after a short period of time . That is not fair in my opinion and it should be changed . Also possibly , I don’t think headscarf’s should be allowed everywhere; at least not in schools and some jobs ; as it does not show a will to fully integrate into the local society in my opinion.

Here in Europe, we are secular, we don't give a shit about anyone's religion, especially when it has rules like : kill those who leave the religion, you can smack your wife if she's arrogant, homosexuality is punishable by death, oppression of women and so on

I lived in Iran in the seventies, and I can assure you there would be no such Christian or Jewish gatherings and or prayers in any city or public square, and that was when the Shah was in power, and other religions were tolerated, but never would such a public display of religious activity be tolerated by the Muslims even at that time. This proves the nature of the problem, tolerance for me but not for thee.

I was in Isfahan when I lived in Iran a couple of years ago. I visited the synagogue there. Iran has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel - in the Middle East. Where we lived in Tehran in Sayed Khandan there was a large statue of the Madonna on our street. Plus Catholic and Protestant churches.
