I think it’s because Dennis has always been the more flamboyant and preppy of the three, while Mac has been the most man’s man. Their decision to make Mac gay makes sense considering hyper-masculinity is a major over-looked aspect of gay male culture, but I do think they’ve also hinted that Dennis is also attracted to men and reciprocates Mac’s feelings but is more discreet about it. They also hit the nail on the head with Dennis calling himself the power bottom in their relationship.
