Dennis Johnson was a hellva player. I remember when Boston got him to defend against Andrew Tony a.k.a. the Boston strangler.I met him years ago working at a club. One of the nicest human beings I've ever met. Rest In Peace DJ.

Dj and Coop were also my favorite defensive players. Can't tell you how much an 80s basketball nerd like me enjoys this podcast.

Loved DJ. I named my car after him! DJ had cat-quick hands. It's sad he never got to experience being inducted into the HOF. Unbelievable the hall waited over 20 years after his retirement and after he had passed away to do it.

DJ was a defensive mad scientist 👨🏾‍🔬!!! Dennis Johnson and Gus Williams is one of my favorite backcourts of all time. I was a Celtics fan when most people I knew liked the Lakers or 76ers because DJ got traded there.

Damn, great stuff! Dennis was such an intelligent player. People forget that DJ came into the league as an athletic beast.. very quick, jumping out of the gym, so on. A defensive monster! By the time he hit his peak, when he was with the Suns, he turned into a combo-guard able to do anything necessary. At some point he was viewed as a locker room cancer and such, which he turned it around and proved everyone wrong when Boston went out and got him! He wasn’t even at his very best with the Celtics, especially not athletically… and pretty much develops into a cerebral PG (which I don’t think many would expect), smart as hell, able to control the pace, never hogging the ball, knowing where the ball should go, being a floor general basically (next to another like Bird)! His defense still top notch because despite being a step slower (and with more weight on), and not as explosive, he was even stronger, had tremendous footwork, very quick hands (with the signature poke-away steal), IQ through the roof. And he could still score because he was big and pretty good in the post, could attack the rim still, and although his shooting was streaky and he didn’t have much range, he could still hit jumpers. He was just a great addition for the Celtics. And throughout he remained.. simply incredible at two things: defense and clutch play! He raised his game when needed.

I loved Coop and the Lakers …hated Boston with their racist crowd & antagonists in Red,Ainge etc …..….But what an incredible team ….loved to hate them ….Bird when fit was on another planet at times…Definitely top3 (DJ definitely the most underrated nba great )

DJ is easily in the conversation as one of the greatest big-game playoff players of all-time! People always talk about Larry's great 1987 ECF's Gm.#5 steal against Detroit at the Boston Garden, and rightly so, however, most people don't discuss just how difficult it was for DJ, under those frenetic circumstances, to make that shot! I always found it funny also how, when DJ would go to the free-throw line, he would dribble the ball once for every year he was in the league! So, his final year in 1990, he would dribble the ball 14 times on each free-throw, and he would have to somewhat hurry in order not to violate the 10-second rule!😂 DJ was a great teammate, a great leader, and a great tutor for the young players coming in. DJ was a quintessential class act through and through!

1985 finals game 4. Celts in danger of going down 3-1 to the Lakers. Bird dishes to DJ for an open 21 footer. Johnson swished it. Gamewinner 3:57

DJ played relaxed most of the game. When the game was on the line, last 2 minutesis when he became a stopper. defense stops, steals, big shots. cool never even seamed to sweat much

It was embarrassing that it took the Hall of Fame so long to put DJ in. I don't know what their standards are, but all they had to do was simply watch him play, especially in big games. It speaks volumes when Larry Bird says that DJ was the best player he ever played with. I never saw anyone fire a pass off the dribble like DJ would, and hit Bird in the hands in mid air at the exact time and place the ball had to be there. He did it looking off as well.
