This video shows how to correctly hang your bridle up (you can find this video in the Dennis Moreland Tack Blog at www.dmtack.com...) right after unbridling your horse without re-adjusting the reins. Often after unbridling it's necessary to temporarily hang or lay the bridle down while you finish unsaddling and then go beck later to straighten the reins bit.ly/2aORzXO before it's hung correctly. By using this professional technique your bridle is ready to be hung the minute you take it off your horse!
Start by tying or buckling your halter around your horse's neck. By doing this you'll still have control of the horse as you unbridle.
Stand on the left side of your horse. Take your left rein and place it under the neck and back up over the neck on the right side. The rein's tail should be lying on the left side of the neck. Make sure there are no twists in the rein and the smooth side is up.
Again from the left side of your horse place the right rein under the neck and up over the left side of the neck. The tail should be lying on the right side. Remember to straighten any twists and check that the smooth side of the rein is up.
Push the reins up the neck to meet the crown of the headstall. Gently and slowly push the headstall and reins over the head being careful not to hit the bit on your horse's teeth. Immediately hang your bridle on the hook. Now it's ready to ride next time.
This is an easy, efficient way to unbridle that leaves your bridle, including reins, ready to hang the instant you remove it from your horse. This method will keep your reins untangled and flowing smoothly so you’re always ready to ride! Your horse will appreciate it as much as you do!
At Dennis Moreland Tack we cut every rein we make in pairs from premium hides that are especially chosen just for reins. Each rein is edged by hand then rubbed with saddle soap, pure Neatsfoot oil, and again with saddle soap. This gives the edges of the reins a smooth, even feel in your hands.
