@clibis23 жыл бұрын
Dennis was not guaranteed $84M that figure was mentioned during the discussions that were not concluded. If we agree that he would have received that amount over 4 years which works out to be $21M per year and he settled for $6M per year with the Celtics... then he will have lost only $9M in the first year. It is wrong to say he lost $84M because he has the potential to earn more than that over the next 3 years providing he plays well.
@clibis23 жыл бұрын
Be reminded also that the Lakers were playing games because they knew that both Lebron and AD were having secret discussions with Westbrook and once he commited to joining the Lakers.....Dennis was done. Just imagine the same thing happening to others with their jobs. Very Unfair.

The answer is “yes.” This isn’t the short answer or the answer for now. It’s simply the answer, “yes, that was the wrong decision.” This years FA market for PGs showed us that’s unless your Luka or Steph level that the most your going to get is around that 84mil that the Lakers offered him. Not 100mil+. Now he has to wait a year to see, if all goes well, if teams are even willing to offer him that 84mil again. Even Reggie Jackson got just 22mil for 2yrs and he balled tf out these playoffs. Is Dennis really going to turn into Luka or Steph in one season? The season after dropping 2 0pt games in the playoffs? Nah, that’s extremely unlikely.

Dennis averaged 15ppg in the regular season which was good enough for the Lakers to offer him $84M for 4 years. While the contract was being negotiated Lebron and AD were courting Westbrook over Tacos and Wine at Lebron's house. They got a commitment from Russ to join the Lakers then they stopped the negotiations with Schroder and started the rumor about trade for Lawry to confuse him. Shortly after Magic Johnson went on national TV and stated that Dennis was not a Laker and Trevor Lane and his cronies started bad-mouthing him on their show. All of a sudden Dennis was no good and the Lakers front office held up the signing until the market dried up and the rest is history. Best thing that ever happened to the lakers. If they signed Shroder, they wouldn't have have been in place to get Westbrook.

And now that Shannon sharp went on tv and said he wouldn't pay him a bag of chips.. But he don't talk about other people's money though.. But he loves labron so much he went back on everything he said.owell..
@Renshai323 жыл бұрын
Shannon makes comments all the time about what he wouldn't give for a player. He just doesn't criticize them getting the money they get. Always says if they can get it then good for them. Doesn't mean he can't say anything about what he would give in a non monetary way.

@@Renshai32 yes it does because when the Steelers player's criticised bell about money like he just did again and again and said he would never talk about another man's money so there's a difference here? Please explain??

This incident has been indicative of Dennis Schoder's career: very good reserve but an average starter who refuses to accept he is not an all-star caliber point guard and brings baggage. We saw the same movie in Atlanta and OKC. Schroder's problems always start when he demands to start, which is what he has done in all his stops. He becomes a starter, plays average ball and then starts drama. Schroder turned down the Lakers' contract because he actually thought he would get a $100-120 million contract -- which is what all-star caliber point guards get. In reality, Schroder is best coming off the bench, because he's not a ball-distributing point guard but a scoring guard whose game is based on penetration.

how is it "betting" when u get offered 84m in 4yrs. does that even qualify as betting on himself? its not like they offered him a 40m/4yr contract. Lakers offered the max extension they could. He could land a bigger contract as a free agent, but how many team need a point guard right now? and dont act like Dennis is Curry Kyrie Lilard those type of pg's i prob can name 20 pgs better than him without googling

Easy for Greeny to say with the good situation his in, there’s a difference between betting on yourself and just being dumb, dennis wasn’t even playing all that well when they made him the offer, so just imagine if he would’ve took the deal and even if the lakers trade him for westbrook he still gets to take the $84mill with him and then try and proved to whatever other team he’s on that he’s worthy of getting paid again!..

He turned down 80 mill but in all reality he’s going to make 5.9 mill which is still More than 99% of us can make in a Year.. Wishing him a Successful year ! He’s still a baller.

For every person that bet huge on themselves and wins, there are at least 10 that don't. Look at the percentage of wannabe ball players, rappers, and entrepreneurs. This man had a solid contract that could help support him and his family very nicely. Very unfortunate.

The issue with "betting on yourself" in his case is the reality of skill set. If you try to bet on yourself and make it to the NBA in college when you're 5' 3" it's grim. Dennis Schroder was going to get good money that he rightfully deserved but he chose to compete against elite PGs in the market. If he looked around and saw how much Lowry was making and evaluated his play he would know he's not going to get paid as much as Lowry.

@dropoff29863 жыл бұрын
The phrase “bet on yourself” is over used and often misinterpreted. For NBA players “betting on yourself” is making sure you put yourself in a position to be successful , and not settling for less. Dennis Schroder did just that. He didn’t like his situation in Atlanta, so he demanded a trade. Played well at OKC, and ultimately landed with the Lakers. The Lakers then offered him an $84 million contract. THAT WAS IT! ^ That was the result of Schroder BETTING on himself, and his hard work and determination almost paid off. But Dennis got greedy. He DECLINED that extension that he worked so hard for, because he wanted more. Now he’s on the Celtics playing on a 1yr deal for $5.9 million. That’s not “betting on yourself”. That’s being greedy and not having self awareness.

His agent's resume is gonna be like "I successfully closed a deal for my client Dennis Schroder. He wanted 120 mils initially but eventually settled for 100mils but Lakers didn't respect his greatness and only offered 4 years 84 mils guaranteed. That was not fit for my client so we ended up with half of a MLE in Boston. He's now making 6 mils for a 1 year contract."
