Can't wait to see the way Carlisle can impact a player that has high talent and top tier athleticism. Type of player that could fall in love with the coach and never leave. I called the pick in march, really glad they took him.

He went to the best possible team to perfect his shot. Mavs have the best shooting coaches.

True man, and it also includes Holger Geschwindner, Dirk's shooting coach from Germany. So yea, I'm willing to bet that Smith Jr.'s shooting should improve throughout his NBA career. The part that really gets me excited about Smith though is, I feel that that the Mavs are the perfect fit for him because of the ability of the team to create spacing on the floor. I can't think of a team that creates more space (other than the Warriors) while Dirk is on the floor to draw out a 4, or a lot of times a 5. With Dirk, Curry and Matthews' ability to shoot the 3, Smith will have all the space he needs to beat his guy for easy buckets. The Mavs haven't had a guy that could legit create his own shot since MAYBE Monte Ellis, but even Monte didn't have the ball handling ability or explosiveness that Smith has. I can't wait for next season.

Great Video! As a Mavs fan I couldnt be more excited about Smith Jr. The only thing I am missing in this video is his weaknesses. I am sure he has some and it would have been nice if you would have mentioned them. Its always nice to know them before and to see how a player develops over the course of his first season. Keep up the great work!

Only thing I'm worried about is his health. 82 game season plus the playoffs... that's a lot of wear and tear on the body. This guy has all the intangibles to be a great player. I'm not too much worried about his defense, simply for the fact that we have Rick Carlisle (top 3 coach in the league) as our coach. He will put Dennis where he needs to be defensively, and build up his defensive IQ when it comes to defensive rotations. Offensively, well I'm already wanting to go see this guy play at AA Center and light teams up lol. We got us a gem and a steal in this PG loaded draft. One that will go down in the books I believe as one of the best. #MAVSNATION

Dennis Smith is the 3rd best player of this year's draft.While I don't believe that he will be better than Markelle Fultz or Josh Jackson,he will be a Superstar if develops correctly.He got underrated in this year's draft becasue of a injury from 2 years ago.The Dallas Maverick got a true steal in this year's draft and teams like the Lakers,maybe the Kings(tho I believe DeAaron Fox will be decent to good player with a outside chance he becomes a superstar if he becomes a better shooter and passer),the Magic,the Bulls and the Knicks.
@jquaite
@jquaite 7 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on Fox. At this point, Smith has the better physical profile due to his strength and explosiveness, better shooting, and better scoring ability because he has a more complex handle than Fox. And while people laude Fox over his defensive potential because of his lateral quickness, he is rail thin and needs a lot of work on his technique. (I'll still give him the edge there because he showed more desire to defend than Smith did at times). What also isn't talked about enough with Smith is his passing ability. He had some special games this year passing the ball and averaged 6.2 assists per game which was more than both Fultz and Fox (and note that Fox had much more talent around him than Smith did). I was watching the draft the other day and was surprised by how much the "experts" were pegging him as a score first PG who doesn't pass the rock much. Finally, when thinking about Smith's potential and how he was definitely undervalued in this draft, you have to look at his rebounding potential. He averaged nearly 5 boards per game and had a couple double digit rebounding games that resulted in triple doubles for him. If Smith had been in a better situation and had a chance at a tournament run like Fox, Smith would have been drafted over him easily. The one thing I will say about Fox is that he seems like more of a leader than Smith does at this point in his career, but hey both these guys are young, and Smith is going into a very positive culture in Dallas where he does not have to be the leader right away because of the veterans on the team. This will give him a chance to learn from the likes of Wes Matthews, Harrison Barnes, and of course Dirk, 3 of the most poised, hard working athletes in the league.
