Brian wasn't the only talented song writer of the Wilson brothers. Dennis and Carl wrote some awesome songs too and this is definitely one of them. When you listen to this song in the context of Dennis' tragic drowning it really hits home. "So I'm goin' away, mmm but not forever..." 😢

I was 10 years old when I became a Beach Boys fan. That would've been 1983 and their music was already being treated as "oldies" by radio. I'm not some second generation fanboy who never progressed beyond the music if my youth. Black Metal and Death Metal are the subgenres I listen to most of the time these days, but I also love Jazz, Blues, Country, and Goth, to name only a few of the genres that I consider great. The thing that always strikes me when I play Beach Boys is that they don't really fit into.any genre. Brian Wison was a channel for something uniquely his own. The early surf music was emulated but never reproduced by scores of surf rock wannabes, but Pet Sounds was the album that even the Beatles were blown away by it. Brian had gone somewhere where nobody else could follow. Sgt. Pepper's would have most likely never existed if Lennon and McCartney hadn't heard and been blown blown away by it. It was that damn good.

How come all the best songs are of simple lyrics, simple melody, perfect singing. Yesterday, Lucky Man, Blowin in the wind (I know Dylan's voice. But it's appalachian folk americana. So perfect for it.). And Forever. Poor Dennis. This should have been his launching point to stardom. But instead, his ship hit an iceberg. The wilson's kids were like Mozart in Amadeus. Deeply affected by their father from the beyond. Love/hate worse than no love or just hate sometimes. And a drunkin mom that just watched the abuse. Normal parents and maybe Brian wouldn't have a break down or Dennis's alcoholism , mental collapse ? Carl smoke himself to death? God only knows. At least Brian came back from it. And jerk head Mike's BB still sound great.
