The nicest thing of the Netherlands is that most of us are multi lingual, we do everything to make you feel comfortable and helping where we can. If you are also into "cheese" than visit Gouda, where the famous Gouda cheeses come from. The northside of the Netherlands ( Friesland, Groningen) is also worth to visit, especially for the lakes and sailing. 🇳🇱🤗

I live there :) I wasn't born in Haarlem, but I consider it home and never want to leave again. It is one of the oldest cities, but not as big or crowded as Amsterdam for example. It has great museums and architecture. And the trainstation is the oldest one in the Netherlands. I don't consider the market anything special though, there are better markets across the country, most famous is the Albert Cuyp market in Amsterdam, however that is much more tourism-based than this one. Another great thing about Haarlem is that it is famous for the huge veriety of restaurants and cafes. Visiting Haarlem during the day should result in having a great meal in one of the many restaurants in the small streets in the centre. And if the weather is good, perhaps have a nice, cold beer at one of the bars around the market place in the evening.

Even though some of the shots are a little "off" (which can easily happen when you work alone, which I think you do), I like this style of video's ten, no I think a hundred times more than selfie-style travel video's that only feature the person talking on camera instead of voice-overing stuff with accompanying footage about what the voice-over is talking about. Great video. A lot of cities and villages have a weekly outdoor market. My city has one in basically every neighbourhood and I think Haarlem has that as well.
@denniscallan7 жыл бұрын
Hi DutchMaster, thanks very much for that and I wholeheartedly agree. Yes, I work alone, on the run, so sometimes the shot is not perfect, but my game is grabbing as much as possible in the time I've got. I also dislike that ridiculous me-me-me-me selfie handheld iPhone crap that clutters the world, or the endless visuals without any comment. It takes me along time to edit the show, but I generally create a new 15-minute show for upload every Friday. Narrating, coming up with something worth saying, is often the hardest part. It's a good thing I had some training, writing 55 long travel articles for my local newspaper and a guidebook about Rome, putting my English degree to work.

google translate: Decades ago you had a cheese market in Breukelen BRKLN on the 'Kaasmarkt'. Self-cheese farmers came there from the meadow area west of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. I've seen them a few times with tractors with wagon and a few with horse and wagon. And suddenly it was over. In the Brugstraat you still had a cheese warehouse where you could see the cheeses. There was also a cheese shop where I bought cheese. It smelled good in the shop. Greetings from Eastern Europe.

4:45 he says it seems everybody has a bicycle. Dutch data say more bikes than people. One to transport the kids to school, one to ride in town, one cross country, one race, one folding to complement either end of a public transportation leg, an old cheap one to get to the train station on the home end and 2nd old cheap one to get from the other end station to the office. As bikes without auxiliary motor have no speed limit, you also want one with an aerodynamic hull to get you around pedaling at 40 mph.

That's how we roll ! In the morning most mothers bring the kids (from 4 to 8 years old) to school by bike with a front and rear seat, and on the way home picking up the daily fresh groceries from a supermarket or an outdoor market like this. It saves a lot of time doing it like that because no time is wasted while looking at the bumper of the car in front of you and/or for a place to park the car. But the girl at 6:12 is waaay to big for the front seat hahaha!
