My 30+ year old Denon DR-M07 died with this problem 15 minutes after use having sat around unused for decades until I decided to digitize my metal (ie Position Type IV) tape collection. With the new 3D-printed cog it is now blasting out my old favorites once again! Thank-you so much! :D

Just did this repair yesterday. Thanks for the video and instructions, a few details missing in dismantle but worked it out. Hardest part was relocating the soft close damper into the door framework. I found it best to take out the screw holding the damper in place, get the loose door frame (2 screws at bottom corners) with the door holder as close to 'in position' as possible. Locate the metal angled pin into the door holder, then fit the bottom hinges in place and screw down the damper holder and doorframe. The wiggle room on these two items made it possible. hope that helps another DR-M07 Driver.

With this information and link to said discontinued part I was able to fix my Denon deck. Thank you, what would have taken weeks took an afternoon.

Thank you so much! This was my first time taking apart a cassette deck and your attention to detail was very helpful. I was able to complete this without completely removing the mechanism from the unit. I took the 4 screws out and pulled it loose but not completely. Secondly, in order to get behind the spring components, I was only able to get my left side to come away from the face, even after releasing the retainer clip on the right. This was enough room to get the old gear out and the new gear in. If anyone needs an updated link, this is the part I used. Comes with 2 wheels for a fair price, search eBay for the following: Technics / Panasonic RDG5772ZA / RDG5772ZC Premium Quality Replacement [2X]

Nicely done. I’ve bought a M07 on the basis of this video. Also located the guy making the gear you changed, saved as a favourite to order if needs replacement. M07 was £20 from eBay but the tape transport doesn’t work at all, so it’s a gamble, possible motor knackered but will find out in the next few days when it arrives. Any other thoughts on the fault?

Can you link to where you brought the cog from please
Hi! The "3d printer guy" is here :) the above link is still working, but if you happen to live in the UK, a more convenient way is : www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08V5DVSM1?ref=myi_title_dp

The mechanism is the same as the Technics decks.

Nice video. I’ve just found the same issue. Do you have a link to your 3D printer part source for the plastic cog? Cheers. Rich
Part arrived from Poland to UK in 2 weeks. Followed your video and did the swap out. All good! Thanks again.

Schematic of at least power supply section would be great help of this tape deck as I have one that only the motor runs and no voltage appearing on the noise reduction IC's Thanks to anyone that can help
@luvradios3 жыл бұрын
google search the IC's and see if you can find the data sheet, find the VCC pin and from there just trace it back to the power supply or go straight to the power supply and start checking voltages of regulator transistors, across low ohm resistors and larger capacitors.

I would just like to say a massive 'Thank You' for this excellent video which enabled me to finally repair my 1989 Denon DR-M07 tape deck. I sourced the intermediate gear cogs per your comment below [ “Technics RDG5772ZA”] (I ordered 4 cogs for two decks just in case). My other deck will go through the same proceedure as they both suffered exactly the same faults within a very close time frame in 2018. The new 3D printed gear cog appears to be more robust than the factory fitted one. Hopefully it will last longer than another 30 years and maybe even outlive me! Once again, thank you.

Hi I have the same machine and I think same issue, how did you get the unit out? I'm struggling to disconnect the ribbon bands between the circuit board and unit and don't want to break anything! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide 👍
@luvradios3 жыл бұрын
I dont recall which type of connectors this one had but look at the where the cables are plugged in and if the connectors have tabs that hang over the right and left edge you'll need to pull up gently on those which will release the cable, if the connectors has no tabs then you will push down gently right next to where the wire goes in and while your pushing on the connector pull gently on the ribbon cable and it should come out, you may need to push down in a couple of places to fully release it.

@@luvradios much appreciated, cog has now arrived so when I get a moment I'll fit it. Excellent video, I'm a total novice and have never done anything like this before but all seems straight forward thanks to your direction. Keep up the great work 👍

Thanks for the awesome info. I wish I could've seen you reinstalling the door. There is a little wire arm that dampens the door opening mechanism. I just can't get the door reinstalled with the wire connected to the door?

There is a hole on the left hand side of the opening part of the door-mech it goes there.

@@luvradios This ebay item does not seem to exist any more. I would like to get one. While mine does work it has 1 tooth missing. Any chance of more information for me to hunt him down? I paid too much for my M07 and it needs the cog and a new erase head. The PB head is grungy but sort of works. If you can help me I'll give you a copy of my service manual for the DR-M07. :-)
