Glad you mentioned how you had zero experience going into the program . I start in the fall and also have zero experience so I have been pretty anxious! I started reading the book for oral tissues 1 and I’ve never been so overwhelmed with the amount of information in just the first few pages😅

May I ask why you went for 4 year? It is my understanding it doesn’t change pay or job security. Only really necessary for teaching or DH therapy practices

many of them were young but we also had many that were a bit older. honestly wouldn’t have ever known if they didn’t tell us though, so no worries! you will still make friends & become close with a lot of them I’m sure :)

Girlllll I’m 26 with 2 kids and I’m going into a dental hygiene program this fall, I couldn’t possibly think I’m too old, I feel happy doing what I love. You’re perfectly fine!! :) There even is a 40 year old in my class. Do what you want! You’ll only regret the opportunities you didn’t take

age does not matter! dont compare yourself to others because we all have different journeys. I'll be 30 this year and wont be eligible to apply until next year. ..but I'm stoked for this new chapter in my life. you got this!

What health requirements do they require for the program like what vaccines do you need for example?

Yes you need to be vaccinated or sign a waiver. Highly recommended because you’re dealing with blood when cleaning people’s teeth and close contact

I don't have an exact amount but clinic materials and supplies for first year I probably spent around $2,000. this included all the instruments and everything that you are required to buy, along with scrubs, shoes, stethoscope, books, etc! second year so far is around $600? I didn't have to repurchase scrubs or books though and didn't need as many clinic supplies

No one ever talks about what the schedule is like:( I'm trying to plan for dental hygiene school as I finish my generals. Just wondering if I'll be able to work during the day weekdays at all.

my schedule the first year was basically classes 8-3 most days. I mainly worked the weekends. the second year definitely slowed down a lot though and gave room for more availability!
