Dentistry=debt. Out of all medical professions.. it has the WORST ROI. . 2nd being pharmacy. Cost of dental school is no longer 200k. Public schools are closer to 300k with accrued interest and private schools are at least 500k. With interest rates at 8-10%, theres no way you can pay back making 120k, or even 160k a year. General dentists who run private practice can try to net 200k, but even making 200k is still difficult to pay back 300k in loans. Orthodontics is even worse. There are some orthodontists who have 1 million dollars in student loan debt(I.e mike meru). This field is on the decline. Insurance companies are reimbursing less and less every year. Corporate dental firms are buying out private practice.
