Ok theory: Orin really lost his mother at a young age. However, since it’s obvious he wouldn’t show as much emotion or grief as a Neurotypical person might and grew up in Skid Row, nobody talked to him about it to check in. So to take out his frustration he started taking out his anger on animals. Then on people. And he became addicted to hurting them. Then he started to feel guilty repeatedly and he turned to the drugs for help.
