@@theacgkid All these draft geniuses have short memories. Three years ago George Paton ignored fan & media pleas to draft Justin Fields & instead took Patrick Surtain II. The fan base freaked out of course. Fast forward till now...Paton was right & the fans & media were wrong. Now the same bunch wants us to take a guy ranked lower than Fields was even though Fields was sent packing for a 6th round pick & Surtain is worth two #1's in any trade. Apparently these people think Payton will do what Paton would not...reach for a QB. But Sean didn't even do that in 2006 as a rookie HC when he had his choice of THREE rookie hotshots all who were there for the taking without him having to move up since he had the #2 pick. Why would an older, wiser Sean Payton who groomed a vet nobody else wanted into a HOF QB & won a Super Bowl with him suddenly now reach for a rookie who is probably a late 1st or even a 3rd round pick when he already has a vet he signed under similar circumstances when he came to Denver? Expect Payton to go with BPA...most likely a linemen or a cornerback. Over the 15 years he drafted for the Saints, of the 30 players he chose with his first two picks in those drafts, 70% of the time (21 picks) he chose either a CB or a lineman. Payton knows what he's doing.

It's less to do with scouting and more to do with the player wanting to become better or being drafted to a bad situation, bad coaching, etc. they can only predict based on what they've seen not what will happen in the future.

There’s too much smoke about the Broncos trading up for JJ. I think the hype is a campaign to push him up, forcing the actual target to fall. Those targets are Nix and Penix

It’s a rebuild. Build up draft capital, O-line, Edge rush, DB’s. Any QB at this point is doomed in Denver. Start Zack Wilson at QB, get top three pick next couple seasons. Aim for playoffs in four to five seasons

With zach wilson, im not sure denver feels the need to trade up. Nobody is banking on the idea zach is the guy. He is an option if denver decides to stockpile picks. Bo nix or Michael Penix are great options for denver but a TE or WR would be great picks.

I dug into the medicals on Penix, something nobody in the media seemed to think was worth the time. It was not terribly encouraging. I'm not talking about the two ACL tears, but his shoulder injuries. It's possible they won't cause him any problems...key word being "possible". It's also "possible" that they will. The fact that he is "medically cleared to play" means pretty much diddly squat. Of course he is...but what does that mean after that? Penix was only good when he had QB savant Kalen DeBoer coaching him, otherwise he was pretty average. DeBoer makes EVERY quarterback look great. See somebody named Patrick Ramsey for exhibit A. To your point...Penix has got the speed to escape the pocket but not the desire to. That speaks to a guy concerned about getting hit, and justifiably so. Anybody taking him with a RT who is not a top notch pass blocker is asking for a problem IMO.

2020 is a better QB class to hope for in terms of results, more reasonable too. All 6 QBs taken in that class are solid starters or better, all have led teams to the playoffs and two have led teams to the Super Bowl. In other words a QB draft class without a single bust.

I'm so tired of listening to the media about which QB is going to be good or bad. All I have to say is go back and look at the QB hype in the 2018 draft. The media steered so many teams away from Lamar Jackson (32nd Pick) who besides Josh Allen (7th) really was any good. Looking back only one or two QB's turn out to be studs in a draft anyways so why invest all of your picks when odds are they are a bust anyways. Just pick Penix Jr or Nix and maybe you hit but don't trade up for JJ or Maye Broncos!

Oline Broncos fans are becoming a meme. I live in CO and none of us think this way. All my people were sceptical of Wilson. It didnt work out, the coaches didnt work out, the owners daughters didnt work out. Now the richest people in the world bought the team, they hired one of the best coaches in the NFL to fix the disaster of the last 10 yrs. We didnt think it would happend in 3 or 4 yrs...they damn near made the playoffs last year. THATS WHAT BRONCOS FANS THINK.

I totally agree that most of these guys are ready, with the exception of Drake Maye who needs a couple of years for sure. Because Maye has to sit, his value, by definition, needs to drop for two reasons. 1. Your ability to keep him on the roster at good economics is greatly diminished. 2. Your ability to win games, make the playoffs and build chemistry with the current roster NOW is non-existent. The guys who can play now, get experience v. NFL defenses now, are more valuable than some theoretically high ceiling. Maye has a high ceiling but can only be reached over time and the lowest floor of any of the six. (See Zach Wilson).

For that matter, 95% of people in the media talking about this are also not scouts, & among those who are...some have expressed the opinion that some of these quarterbacks being pimped as 1st round picks are actually 2nd or even 3rd round talents.

I can answer that; 1) they lack knowledge of what it takes to produce an NFL quarterback (fans), or 2) they are media geeks who get clicks, likes, follows & comments that drive traffic to their social media sites which equates to increased revenue. A guy like Chris Simms knows better, but he's not going to rock the boat. Sports journalism is dead, replaced by "content producers" with mics & sponsors who want to see advertising dollars pay off. Bo Nix is 3 years from being a viable NFL starter...if he becomes a starter at all. He's a 3rd round talent.

@volneypowlis8527 CJ Stroud had a phenomenal rookie season...which is extremely rare for rookies. Which is my NFL history, factually-based point. Herbert has a lot of passing yards, far too many redzone interceptions, 1 playoff appearance and zero playoff wins. But just like all QB's, Mahomes included, you need the rest the team/coaches to actually win.
