With Wemby they are solid, they just have strategically tanked this year by not playing Wemby 32+mpg. Pop is smart but I still think the Spurs would have won the IST had the NBA had better incentives like "the winner of the Tournament gets 25% higher chance to win the number one pick (meaning, if all 30 teams get one ticket for the drawing, the winner would get 6 extra drawing tickets (6/30 = 20%) giving them 7 total and by far the best chance to get number one pick. Wemby has been that impactful but the W/L won't show it because he's not playing enough

But things will be different next season. Even if Wemby can only shoot easy balls near the rim, which is unlikely, only considering his defensive capability, he will be an all-star. Chet is good, but hasn't reached that level.

That last play in transition when Braun saw Wemby close, not even at the rim just close and in a bad angle to pursue, and still chose to not take a layup sumarizes Wembayama's defense. He has guys making business desicions on semi wide open layup just in the off chance that he can get there to contest it. Even Jokic said "f this" and dunked a couple times in the off chance that Wembanyama tried to chase him down. And all of this while still having some things to polish in positioning and efficient use of his hands, like constantly trying to contest shots with his right hand when the left hand constest would be the better choice. Very scary indeed.
