Love this station and what they bring to our community. There are lots of festivals and cultural celebrations in our community and they are always outside interacting with neighbors and showing kids around the house. Also, the station is so cool and truly an anchor in this area. This crew is the best! (From a neighbor who lives just down the block and has had to call them in the middle of the night)

This really old Fire-Fighter worked that house in early 1970s, and it was a bad hood back then. City put up a tall fence around our parking area in back and we would lock it up at night and next morning there would be footprints across the top of some cars, the little stinkers still got in but usually minimal car damage. We ran 5 men in those days and used the same bunker gear continually. When it was a black manned firehouse the men would give haircuts to the neighborhood kids on Saturday on the front apron. The black Captain was Shorty (?) and he ran the station like military and was well liked, and in his day the shifts were 1 on 1 off. We had no air horns until about 1972 and no blue lights as those were saved for snowplows. The basement was department storage for helmets and I always questioned why everybody needed his own bed throughout the department when most of America just changes sheets when coming on shift. The Washington park station, being old had a small bedroom with 17 beds in it, and one would have to clear a small lane just to reach your bunk. Engines were called Pumpers back then and first arriving pumper would have to lay an incoming supply line (21/2) on any fire call, even false, wrong address, no fire, fire out, wrong alley or whatever, and boy did we reload a lot of hose daily, but the truck companies usually helped. When I think back, those were some of the best times of my life. I left in 1974 and finished out at Miami-Dade Fire for 43 years total. Ah the memories.

@@Ethixei You were close in your original comment: Rocky Mountain Fire District (in Boulder County) merged with Mountain View in January 2021. If that's who you're referring to, I'm guessing you mean the station on Baseline? Another interesting fact about that house: It used to be Cherryvale FPD's Station 3 until they merged with Eldorado Springs-Marshall FPD in 2007 to become Rocky Mountain FD--and the station before 1999 and 2013 remodels looked nothing like it does today. Lastly, I assume by "brush trucks" you're primarily referring to Tender 2242--the one built on the Czech-made Tatra chassis, and the last one S&S built before they went bankrupt in 2008? It's definitely a beast, and you should check out Grand Valley (Parachute, CO) FPD's Tender 32 and Kremmling FPD's Tactical Engine 414-2016 and 2005, respectively, Pierce Hawk Extremes--and Ault-Pierce FPD's Brush 2031 & 2032--one housed at each station, and both 2020 H&H *_Big Dogs_* on a built International HV507 4x4s--if you're into that sort of thing.

Wow, funny how one of their oldest stations are the same designation numbers as one of our oldest stations here in Washington D.C., which is engine no.3! Both have those narrow doors, except ours were made for horse and buggy fire aparatuses, similar to their original firehouse across the street! Just like theirs, ours is also in the midst of newer structures, etc. Ours is older than their, though! Ours is over 100 years old. I myself am not a Firefighter, but my father was, except not for Washington D.C., but for P.G County, MD, which is right next door to D.C.! My father was a legend, and i always wanted to be a Firefighter. I made an attempt which failed, and I ended up as a Trucker! I still dream to make a second attempt at being a Firefighter, and if so it'll be here in Washington D.C.!

Lots of history in this old house--the Fabulous Baker Boys at 11s (built in 1936) and the Zombies at 14s (built in 1937), too--but did you know that the busiest truck company in the United States is Denver's 4 Truck? Or that Littleton FD (now part of South Metro Fire-Rescue, the next largest department in Colorado after DFD, and sharing a border with it) was one of the first in the country to cross-train firefighters as paramedics and integrate pre-clinical ALS as a primary service provided by the department? Or that Littleton was the first department in the nation to utilize 5" LDH, but had to import it from Germany because nobody in the states made hose that big? Or that the aforementioned South Metro is the only department in the country to hold an ISO Class 1 rating in their hauled water (_i.e._ tanker shuttle) areas? Yup, we respect and appreciate our firefighting history around here, but we don't let it get in the way of progress and innovation.
