Denyse Plummers: A Lifetime of Calypso Adventures

From her debut in 1986 at Skinner Park to becoming the Calypso Monarch, Denyse Plummer's journey in the world of Calypso has been nothing short of legendary! Join us as we celebrate a lifetime of Calypso adventures with this iconic singer.
Denyse made her debut in 1986 at Skinner Park, where she found herself at the end of an unappreciative audience. She went on to become the Calypso Monarch in 2001.
CARIBBEAN INSIGHT TV (CITV) programs are cultural documentaries demonstrating the history of West Indians through their musical artistry. CITV's mission is to provide innovative, practical and top-quality products that will serve as a conscious raising vehicle and a cultural organizing tool for Caribbean History.
Denyse Plummer is a Calypso and Gospel singer from Trinidad & Tobago.
Denyse made her debut in 1986 at Skinner Park, where she found herself at the end of an unappreciative audience. Phase II Pan Groove Steelband arranger Len "Boogsie" Sharpe idea for Denyse to sing his band's Panorama entry. Plummer started making a name for herself as a calypsonian.
In 1988, with yet another Len "Boogsie" Sharpe pan tune, "Woman Is Boss" she arrived at the National Calypso Monarch finals and also won the Calypso Queen crown. Since then she has taken the Calypso Queen crown a total of six times and has won 2nd place Crown three times.
Denyse Plummer is the 5th female calypsonian to ever win the "Young King" competition and has made it to Calypso Monarch finals in 1983,1988, 1992, 1994 and was victorious in 2001, taking home the title for the first time.

Denise my aunt bernadette remenisces of the trips to maracas with trini yourself maria cut bert errol and Diane polo was very young then but enjoyed these trips during the carnival season the roti pelau souse buljol hops ham pastel balloon stewed pigeon peas and that special maracas ozone odour cant be forgotten

To a lady who represented Trinidad 🇹🇹 & Tobago everywhere she went. A legned alongside Calypso Rose. Someone in which artsts like Destra Garcia takes inspiration from-'Check ✔️ out an episode of I Belong To The House of Music 🎼🎶 and you will understand what I mean. From singing in bars to winning the crown 👑 6 times (coming second 🥈 3 times). From being chastised at Skinner Park in San Fernando (South Trinidad) to winning the Calypso Monarch in 2001 "Heroes" and "Nah Leaving". Rest in Peace 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🌹🌹🌹🌹 Denyse Bernadette Kirline Plummer (1954-2023). We lost Explainer, Francine & Stalin last year, now it's your turn. Sing for the Lord & his angels 😇 now.
