I know it easier to get angry these days, especially for certain demographics, but I really doubt when this was created they expected people to "not see" those are traced animations. The full unlocked video is referencing different styles of animations and animated shows (Like Scooby-doo, Wacky Races and sure there's more I even can't pick). I'd like to believe it was never intended to make it seem like "Something new" instead of an homage (Knowing those fights are from some of the most iconic animes out there...). Especially when it involves someone like Denzel, who is always introducing nerd references in his music. People don't even know if they approached the original creators to allow them to trace those scenes. But again, it easier to get angry these days than be level headed, analyze situations and give benefits of doubt.
@ryux70634 жыл бұрын
But it’s more than just referencing or paying homage because you’re an anime fan, it’s literally just tracing over someone else’s work and not giving credit for it. They didn’t even ask for permission
@crastofer4 жыл бұрын
@@ryux7063 How you know if they asked or not? Again, the whole unlock animated video is paying homage to different animations and cartoons. It's a mash of several sequences from popular animes. Do people really think if they were tracing to be lazy, they'll pick Cowboy Bebop, Naruto or Legend of Korra? Knowing how popular they are? If those were from some obscure anime not popular in the West, I could see they were trying to benefit from others' work, but I'm sure they just felt it could be a could way to pay respect to those animes and didn't expect it would actually offend some anime fans thinking they wanted to create something new... And I'll say it once more, Denzel always introduces "nerdy" (Videogames, comics, anime) reference in his rap projects (He has a song called Dark Tournament rapping over a Yu Yu Hakusho beat...).
@ryux70634 жыл бұрын
crastofer An animator on twitter asked the 2 animators who created the video about the situation and they said that denzel asked them to copy these fights but they didn’t know it was their responsibility to tell denzel that it was wrong to trace (and not credit the original animators). Yes the unlocked short OST’s homage to different animations and cartoons but no matter how good the intentions are, good intentions can’t excuse bad actions. The video traced the key frames of other fights and didn’t credit the original animators. That may not have been the case for the other parts of unlocked but it’s true for this part in particular. It wouldn’t have been all that bad if they used the choreography as reference for what they were doing (that would’ve been homage) but instead they literally just traced the silhouettes (which doesn’t require much artistic talent and that’s why it’s lazy) and didn’t even ask permission or give credit where credit is due. Yeah they picked some popular fights but aside from a few anime hip hop fans, most of his fans didn’t notice it and the ones that did are not really that knowledgeable in animation to know the difference between referencing and tracing so they didn’t see the harm done. Aside from cowboy bebop, Korra, naruto, boruto and gurren lagann (which are all popular among casual anime fans), they copied a fight from absolute duo, which is a rather unknown anime (atleast compared to the others).
@crastofer4 жыл бұрын
@@ryux7063 I saw that tweet but I haven't seen any official statement. And people on that tweet were acting like if the name of the animators was some obscure secret impossible to find and weren't in the credits of the video, so I won't believe the first thing someone post on the internet. And even if true, it will just be the animators' version. But that version would still imply what I was saying: If Denzel was the one who asked for those specific moments, then it's even more clear he wanted to pay homage and not seeking plagiarism without knowing it would make some anime fans mad. The fact of whether his fans were knowledgeable about the animes animations is as relevant as him doing bleach, soul eater, death note bars or rapping over a Yu Yu hakusho theme. It's done because he wants to do it, not because he expects most of his fan base would get it (Moree like an Easter Egg for those who do). The homage of the Akira bike scene done by many show has likely been acknowledge by 1% of the total people who have seen them. And by stating "It wasn't to be lazy" I didn't mean tracing takes effort. Just meant "If they're tracing animation to make it seem like something original created by them, There's no way they'll pick 2 of the most popular animes ever in the US and expect not to be caught". Especially when it's known Denzel it's pretty deep into anime and could easily pick far more niche ones to add. I'm not condoning the action of tracing those scenes, but people like to start witch hunts and public trials so easy these days so they can get their frustrations out...

@@kavoj9483 Thats not how it works idiot. Its not about being a weeb, but an artist. They fucking copied this music video frame by frame from other animations/shows. No one is talking shit about the other animations because theyre ACTUALLY homage. As in, inspired by for example Junji Ito. But they arent 1:1 frame copies. THIS particular one is plagiarism. Im an animator myself and asking for permission doesn't work in the industry. No less they would need to ask studio Mir, Bones, Madhouse, Pierrot and others and THEN confirm it with the animators who did the cuts such as Mr. Nakamura, Mr. Matsumoto and such. You try to make it simple by assuming they asked, but its not how it fucking works dumbass. The scenes are literally copied frame by frame it's not fucking homage.
