Mr. Washington is one of the most outstanding actors ever but as a director he is pretty flat. The source material is superb and the performances memorable but the direction is definitely weak.

@RocStarr913 It was an exceptional work of art. The entire film was in the form of a Petrarchan sonnet which was perfect for the emotional build. Denzel Washington is ahead of his time in that his instincts are so finely tuned that he makes such sophisticated craftsmanship look effortless. Too bad you aren't sophisticated enough to even glimpse a photon's worth of his brilliance.

Nobody else comes close, not Harrison Ford or Kevin Costner or anybody else of his age cohort. Mel Gibson is quite talented too -- as an actor and director -- but I suffer just thinking about his political views and his other views...it's sad really what's happened to him.
