My dad and I were obsessed with the Pennsy when I was growing up, even though I'm too young to remember when it was a functioning company. That tuscan red and pinstripe paint scheme is so iconic, and so cool to see it on modern locomotives.

Thank you for another visit to The Hill in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on 21 August 2023, Jaw Tooth! The Norfolk Southern's Pennsylvania Railroad Heritage Unit is a beautiful looking engine. At 6:31 Norfolk Southern train #635 came into view as it continued its daily trip out of the Ohio River Valley from its origin in Middletown, Ohio to its termination in Rockport, Indiana. That load on the DODX is interesting. I wonder what it that load was?

In this warm weather what would you do for a Klondike bar? Sit back in the chair turn on the fan and watch some JT videos. The daily steel train was only Twenty-One cars and sure looked odd with both engines upfront. That DODX flat a Rarity in that it wasn't carrying a tank. And then later five cars of freshly cut ties on center beams. Of course one must appreciate the Conrail Gondola reunion train probably with ties or items for a rail crew. Plenty of all other types of trains in various locations to keep one interested. Keep yourself and your pets hydrated and stay cool in this punishing Heat

@manidig

The bell ring all the time vs only when the gates move is something I noticed as a kid. I grew up along the Erie-Lackawanna and some crossings did the bells only when the gates move. Others all the time. It had more to do with the age of the equipment or the crossing design. One crossing on a fairly busy street was right next to an industrial yard that serviced several factories and had a lot of in and out switching every few hours. That crossing had no gates. Just crossbucks and flashing lights. The bell rang every time the lights switched from right to left. And during the day there was a lady who would flag the traffic if a move had cars on the circuit for too long (she hung out in a little wooden shanty). There were a few collisions on that crossing and a few deaths. When Conrail took over it was a long time before they eventually put gates there. Today it's just a single track. The yard and the factories are gone.

Howdy JT! Great catches. I wonder if when the engineers get their assigned run for the day and they see they are going to do the hill, if they say 'Hot damn we get to do the hill!' or if it is 'Ah S*** we gotta do the hill' lol. That racket on the intermodel almost sounds like it was the brakes chattering or hanging up. Gotta go check out that hill one of these days. It'd be a haul but would be worth it. If ya gotta stop on a hill... on the way down is the way to go lol. I do like those BNSF paint schemes. Thanks for sharing 🤠

Hey Jawtooth. Try railfanning around Washington DC and Arlington VA. They have cool train watching locations such as L Enfant Plaza 14th Street long bridge and long bridge park if you're interested. I love the Pennsylvania hi too. See you later out there on the steel highway!! Bye bye for now.

I noticed that on the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads, their gated crossing signals ding constantly until the train clears the crossing, but I have noticed on the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads, most of their gated crossing signals ding until the gates go down and then stops dinging once the gates are down. I see that Norfolk Southern is still using a lot of foreign power from other railroads powering their trains. I still think that it's rather odd that there's that flange greaser on that steep hill at Beachwood Rd. No wonder those locomotives have to sand the rails as they climb that hill!

I watched RanOutOnARail SoCal to Stockton and they had several NS units out there. Other video providers iWatch I see foreign power everywhere I think the railroad must just cooperate better now... maybe they're using a FIFO process after servicing, or their just wasting time repositioning locomotives back to their own lines as much any more.

NS uses run through power on trains that go West. But it is unusual to see Beensniffers on point in NS territory. Also NS has leased some of their Locos so that may have been 1 of those.

@glenlundin9623
@glenlundin9623 Жыл бұрын
Transformer, or a massive engine. Madison Indiana Kentucky/Indiana power plant propped up power lines, bypassed highway traffic, bringing a massive transformer to the power plant on the Ohio. The flat bed was like out of a movie, & it took several semis moving it little bits at a time.
