This movie and The Prince of Egypt are my absolute FAVORITE renditions of the book of Exodus. I grew up with The Prince of Egypt so it will always hold a special place in my heart, but I've come to appreciate this version as an adult the more I see it. I wasn't as crazy about Nefertari's relationship with Moses or the way she was used as the force to harden Pharaoh's heart, but it's grown on me more and more. It also kind of alludes to the kind of women that are detested in the bible, like Jezebel.

I grew up in a church family but I never truly partook in any activities but unfortunately because of family image I had to. But my uncle was a very well know pastor in our town. He passed away last year and a few cities he preached in came to say goodbye but he had ALL the movies. Samson, ten commandments, alot of Bible cartoons for his kids, and some westerns from the 50s. His dad my grandpa prayed everyday but he never preached. But whenever this came on tv with snoopy and Garfield MAN was I transported back to a land of youth and innocence. All holidays were celebrated at the church a couple towns away. Just buffets, people coming out to talk, laugh, and have fun. Me and my cousin's and siblings were ALWAYS running around, yelling, playing tag or something but I'd always be taking off to the church hall to grab a few pops and run out before my mom could catch me and tell me "only one!" Lol. Then my uncle or his wife would tell me to go visit one of their children at their house not even that far. So I'd go in and this would be going and my older cousin, the pastors son with one of my bigger cousins would be playing on Nintendo. Either excitebike or kungfu or another game. We're all grown now and with family passing away left and right from the virus and life's curses we turn back the clock and watch these shows and tell the younger ones how fun it was back then. But I love this movie to death. 10 out of 10 lol

I love the line where Rameses admits that he has denied the gods of Egypt. In "Spartacus", Charles Laughton tells his aide: "As to the gods, privately I believe in none of them. Publicly, of course, I believe in all of them." One wonders if Christianity spread so rapidly throughout the Roman Empire because the Christian vision of God was so fundamentally different from the Greco-Roman pantheon. God as seen by Christians and Jews was not a sexual philanderer or a petty tyrant, but someone infinite, remote without being inaccessible, and possessed of a transcendent vision of creation.
