Such thoughtful and modest young guys. So deserving of the massive success they achieved and so obvious that Alan was the main member of the band to be involved with the sound and feel of the recordings.

Min 16:00...Interviewer: ..." because so many British groups are doing so well..." I am just wondering where are those British groups right now...Meanwhile DM ...still kicking butts, with full venues..... after almost 40 years of that interview...
@antunivanovic
@antunivanovic 2 жыл бұрын
The fact is, there were many British groups that were indeed doing well... But now it is easy to ask "where are these groups now", looking back on it all - at the time, it was exciting and diverse and albeit competitive, each group did find its own success. And with success, commercial pressure came just as early - so no worries, the groups probably asked themselves the same question at the time, while carefree consumers were delivered new exciting music product by their favourite band. As for Depeche, well, they 're still here alright (so are The Cure, so are In The Nursery, so are Pet Shop Boys, so are Erasure, so are Wire, so are Neubauten, so are Laibach, to name a few) with their deserved success and all, but despite a surprising new twitch of a song here and there, DM's muse also feels tired for years now with each of their next records feeling too formal (2001-onwards). Which is, of course, understandable after many amazing records they put out throughout their fertile career. The best thing they did was staying with a bunch of equal enthusiasts (being Miller and Mute), especially during their formative years and were free to grow, experiment and develop commercially in a way no other label would have allowed them.

At 10:45 Martin says "life in general" just as he would soon sing in the fantastic song Somebody. I wonder if this is the moment that inspired that line?

Dave always talks the most, and Martin as the main songwriter the least ....

8:30 Martin is the first to call Alan a "liar", I'm beginning to think Martin never really liked Alan, such a tense vibe in the room here, Alan starts coughing soon after. Dave being very PR aware and professional, got his answers ready sort of like an athlete, also calling Alan "Al" which really feels a bit condescending, so weird really. 14:40 Fletch "coming clean" that the sound he's miming to in the video for "Everything Counts" didn't really come from that instrument (it never really looked like he could play the thing), that was nice actually. 13:35 Martin did ask Alan for help in explaining who DAF are, that was also nice. Weird, but informative interview I guess, Daniel looked very tense and nervous as well, I guess it's just strange being independent and successful at the same time.

What band does the interviewer mention at 13:19? Sounds like he says "D.E.F." but I can't find anything by googling those letters along with "band" or "Germany".
