We are not all going to the same place after death. Some to heaven and some to hell. Jesus is the only way to heaven. You can disagree but it doesn't change that its a fact. I've enjoyed DM since the album before Violator. Sting, Simply Red, Tears for Fears, Eurasure and Information Society are my top secular groups. There all British but as an American, I listen like a Brit.

Peter totally f’d up at 0:49 and Dave looked at Martin wondering if they needed to call it quits. Nice recovery. The beginning especially was very emotional. Love it when Dave closes his eyes, sings quietly and just feels it. This is such a beautiful song. Gave me chills when I heard it in Sac. ❤

it happens even after you played the line/riff 1000 times. You can go on "automatic pilot" mode from time to time and miss a note or line/riff, but you suddendly wake up and recover, which is what Petter did very well. I'm sure most people didn't even notice it.

Been a fan since Violator. You can tell Dave has lost some voice. Martin sounds exactly the same. Older groups of this genre generally haven't lost much, save Tears for Fears. Roland sounds horrible and Curt tolerable. Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, sounds almost the same today as he did in Picture Book album. DM is coming to Nashville in October. I hope to be there.

Actually I compared Martin’s voice from 80s/90s videos to this tour and his voice def changed (more than Dave). Depends on the song but overall they sound pretty good!

Waiting For The Night’ On a similar note, the inventive, trance - like sequencing underpinning ‘Waiting For The Night’ also paid homage to past influences, this time Tangerine Dream’s Seventies Moog doodlings. Alan Wilder: “Flood and I had been listening to Tangerine Dream and decided to try and create a similar atmosphere for this track. The main sequence was put together using his ARP and the Sequencer that accompanies [that] synth. Due to its many velocity and filtering possibilities, this unit has a unique quality that is difficult to replicate using a modern - day sequencer triggered by MIDI. Once it has been set up, in order for the sequence to be transposed to follow the chord structure of the song, I needed to play in each chord from an external keyboard. “A similar principle was applied to the ‘bubbling’ bass part, which, together with the main sequence, forms the backbone of the track. The charm of the ARP Sequencer stems from the slight tuning and timing variations that occur each time the part is played. This gives a sense of fluidity and continual change which seems to suit the song.” Jonathan Miller. Stripped. I Depeche Mode

It seemed Fletcher’s absence wasn’t missed musically. Without the “distraction” of Andy Fletcher, as Wilder so delicately put it, the other three members of Depeche Mode, together with Flood, were able to make haste during the remainder of the Danish lap of the Violator production at PUK. By September, when the team relocated to The Church studios in North London’s Crouch End - owned by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame - they had eight songs in the bag. Making up for lost time in Milan, François Kervorkian began mixing while the band continued recording upstairs, assisted by the initially reluctant engineer Steve Lyon who soon got fell into line upon hearing ‘Personal Jesus’. Lyon would, in time, become a trusted associate in Depeche Mode’s ever - expanding musical entourage. Alan Wilder: “François had mixed ‘Personal Jesus’ with us in Milan, and brought with him an excitable and, at times, ‘quite - difficult - to - work - with’ personality. However, the tension that resulted from this was good for the record and provided the individual tracks with some extra touches, as well as a much - needed new angle. Violator’s a lot more electronic than I remember it being; François brought an electro influence, too. Obviously, that kind of sound was what felt right at the time, even though we were also introducing more drum loops* and guitars as well. “Part of the reason drum machines sound [machine - like] is because of the lack of human feel. No two snare beats sound the same when played by a drummer - I like that. Most of the drum sounds on Violator were sampled, apart from the obvious electro sounds [like the Kraftwerk - esque ‘pewt’ noise - courtesy of François Kervorkian, no doubt], but the rhythms were still programmed. Some hi - hat patterns - ‘Policy [Of Truth]’, for example - were played and sampled as loops, and in the case of ‘Halo’ and ‘Clean’ it’s all loops. Again, I prefer the looped parts because of the performance element.” Jonathan Miller. Stripped. I Depeche Mode
