Eric, You need to extend your crossarms all the way until they latch into the end of the arms. Then you extend the crossarms to put tension and stretch the awning tight, then raise the arms to the desired height. They make deflappers to stop fabric from flapping. Latching the crossarms form a triangle which is the strongest arrangement for your awning. Having your crossarms located halfway will bend the arms in the case of a gust of wind and that can be expensive. The wind will stress your configuration too much and cause your crossarms to move making the awning to loosen and cause damage. Move your strap towards the middle of the awning to equalize the force when pulling it open, best yet is to have it located when rolled up above your door. Straps have a way to hide underneath the rolled up awning and if above the door its easier to get at it. One last thing..... Never leave the RV without rolling up your awning, also roll it up at night. A sudden gust of wind will destroy your awning.

Just wanted to thank you for real description of how to open an old awning. Mine was stuck so I gave it a good yank and slowly it opened. Set up bars as you showed. Looks great now with next step of fixing small worn or slices. None too big.

The awning out always makes me feel like I've got more square footage to my RV. It's also, my favorite spot to sit once camp has been set up. Yours looks great!
@0HARE8 жыл бұрын
Great to have the awning. It will increase your living space and camping comfort. Two things to remember about RV awnings: 1. A strong wing will rip them right off the RV, so never leave the awning deployed if you're leaving the RV for more than a few minutes. 2. If it's raining, lower one outside corner a bit for the rain to run off, otherwise it may pool up and the weight of the water could damage the fabric. Happy Camping!

Honestly, I find it to be none of my business, to be honest. Again, I have no right to judge him, in any way, shape, or form. I have my faults, you have your own, same as he has his, what gives you or the next person the right to cast stones? I would rather clean the dog shit out of my own back yard instead oc chastising my neighbor for the dog shit in his own.
@nicholasperrin10978 жыл бұрын
What gives me this supposed right? The fact that I am sitting at home behind a monitor? Pretty damned judgmental if you ask me. And, as for what I can tell, He does travel, when and where he wants on his own timeline. That is his choice, not your's, nor my own. Then, there is the fact that it is his channel. What gives you or anyone else the right to dictate the goings on of someone else's channel???

We always put velcro straps around the post on the awning when it was stored in so that the wind did not pull the awning out from the camper while going down the road. It maybe just an extra step but will save your awning in high wind. You can get them at a camping store.

I've watched your videos now for a couple of months and liked the information that you put out. Everyone does things differently, but the main thing is if it works for you and continues to operate without issues then that's fine. I've also become aware, in watching your older videos, that there are plenty of critics and even haters out there. Yes, when you put your life out there for public consumption it is open for the comments of others, but I don't understand why some people find it necessary to be mean or to become so involved with the affairs of someone else in the first place. Love Jax!! He is the twin to a younger cat that belongs to a couple of friends and I showed them one of your videos. Any man who loves a cat and can train a cat to behave as you have with Jax is a good guy. Good luck in your travels.

You are relying on a dirty rail and friction to keep your awning extended. After some wind, your supports are likely to loosen since you did not latch the supports correctly. You never need two people to extend that type of awning. If it loosens, get ready for some damage because the wind will take over while you are away, like forgetting to tilt it in the rain.

Eric, buy a potato wash it and cut it in chunks or cubes leave the skin on. Put it in a small pot with water covering the potatoes. Simmer until done about 15 - 20 minutes. Drain and add butter and salt & pepper. This is so much healthier than those potato tots. I worry about you like a mom.

@contfan20108 жыл бұрын
+pilotdiana Excellent, but in this case you can substitute the water for beer, the buzz will last a lot longer.

One more comment, sorry. Your own cooked potato is not chemically processed and by keeping the skin on it lowers the glycemic level. Don't see it as a starch, see it as a healthy carb. Enjoy!

Eric, I think your one person operation was fine. That is what I would have done... Also you may want to look at some candle wax on the alum tracks to help it slide better. I don't like any type of oil or grease and graphite is dirty also.. The wax seems to work really well and keeps the tracks from wearing.. Just a thought!Keep us posted on the tires... Very Critical as you already know...

You should take care not to make the awning too tight, or you stand the risk of ripping the fabric away from the side of the RV. Walmart and other places sell *anti flapping* / Velcro, clamps to keep the wind from ripping it. As the material ages it get rather brittle, and will rip pretty easily. Great seeing you two in another class C Tioga.

Thanks, Eric! When you angle your awning to ensure that rain doesn't puddle on it, do you angle it for the water to run toward the back of the RV? I'd think so, but perhaps there are better reasons to make the water run toward the front of the RV. Thanks again!

I kind of miss my manual awning. It would handle twice the wind that my electric one does. I never had help with it until one time and it didn't go so well so I told people to just let me get it. Lol. Packing up your campsite and doing your checks should always be done without interruption it can save you some heartache. If you have a travel buddy just have them double check everything off a list or do their own chores.

I am not sure when I will be out to the lake again before saturday the 19th, that is where my camper is, if you email me on that Saturday i'll look up what awning I have, and I can also tell you what size wiring, and if you have any more questions let me know i'd be happy to share my experiences and what's in my camper. I do know that my led lights are run off of smaller than 16ga wire. i'll check that out too if you'd like it is either 18/2 or 20/2. anyway email me saturday the 19th for more information. jedidieah@gmail.com

Power awnings are nice, but mine is 21' long and built differently than others. My buddy has a different style that is much stronger, but maybe that has a lot to do with the length. but yeah any wind above 8 mph is making it flex. where as my manual awning was good to 16-18 mph before I was worried, it was also 21'.

hey Eric you really should put the support arms at top locked position. the Reason for this is on the same day we had 11mph gusts at our RV park 2 rv were setup exactly how you did it and both RV awning bent at the center main supports. Until I saw this i set up my awning the same way. Once i learned the proper awning set up i was actually able to get the fabric tighter but u might need a ladder i also added awning deflapper but not the one with the velcro get the heavy duty all plastic our awning can support up to 20mph gust with those deflappers. Just don't want u to learn the hard way its expensive
