Newer sub. I’m a YT’er in Taiwan. Good details on money exchange, and especially with how picky they are about the currency!. we made our first trip to Thailand in Decmber last year and can’t wait to get back. For short term trips, if you want to exchange at the airport. Go to the lower level and locate the Ever Rich exchange booth. They had the best rates. If I was staying linger than two weeks, or exchanging more cash, I’d be better off seeking out a bank like you suggest.

When I was there in 70s, it was 20 baht=$1.00. Easy to learn money conversion.

Thanks for the info. Not sure why the bank added an extra charge for the exchange. I always have my Thai wife or children exchange USD to ฿ with no extra charges. Also I’ve had no issues exchanging money (marked bills) at gold shops which is sometimes a better rate than any bank anyway. Good luck.

They said that the extra charge was for the branch transfer fee, I was told that this would include all branches of the bank. I felt it was BS but it was only 332 baht.

@@amaninsiam it is the $146 charge that I was questioning. I guess if you’re satisfied with the transaction that’s all that really matters. I’ve learned over the years that every Farang has their own experiences some the same and some are different but absolutely all are not the same. Thanks again for content.

@@cgar3024 Have a look at the 5:20 mark. I have my math laid out, $137 of the $146 is the cost of the exchange rate for the $9.6K. Let me know if my math is incorrect, this wouldn't be the first time.

@@cgar3024 So you have me thinking now. I'm doing the math from a different angle. Yesterdays rate 34.41 x 9600 = 330,336 (baht); Their exchange rate is 33.91 x 9600 = 325,536 (baht); 330,336 - 325,536 = 4,800 thb or $139 usd. (at yesterdays rate, its up a little today). It's still very close.

@@amaninsiam you’re correct. I understand now. The bank didn’t charge you they just didn’t give you the higher exchange rate. At least not what the website/internet quoted. That’s normal. Actually some banks update their exchange rates 2 or 3 times a day. Morning rates may be different than their afternoon rates. Thanks again.

You seem kinda lame to how exchange rates work. All the major Thai banks have websites in English with a separate exchange rate page where you can check latest rates. BKK updated five times already today
