Let cost is x And given depreciation is 20% which is to be calculated on original cost . So depreciation for 1st year will be X*20/100=X/5 So value of asset after 1 year will be X-X/5=4X/5 Then depreciation for next year will be 4X/5*20%=4X/25 Value of asset after 2nd year will be 4x/5-4x/25=16x/25 Then depreciation for 3rd year will be 16x/25*20%=16x/125 So value of asset after the depreciation of third year will be 16x/25-16x/125=64x/125 Now according to us value of asset after 3 years is 64x/125 . Now 64x/125=160000 As it is given that value of asset after 3 years is 160000 So from the equation we will get X=160000×125/64 X=20000000/64 X=312500
