Ouch! You are speaking to my soul! I'm 50 years-old, working a job that I hate, and juggling my photography projects to get to that place where I finally can quit and follow my passion full-time. Right now my projects include backpacking once a month, building a website, growing (very slowly) a KZbin channel, physical print sales at three consignment stores, and improving my technique through the Dave Morrow Photography School. I'm overwhelmed, but I try to follow many of the principles that you outlined here. Thanks for the encouragement from knowing that anxiety and waning motivation are just a natural part of the process. I, too, get a high when I complete a project - even when I don't get the views, likes, sales, or subscribers that I hope for.

Your message was perfect timing for me to hear. I was loafing most of the morning trying to kickstart my day. Thanks for the reminder the importance of creating projects.

So very true. I felt that way just yesterday, trying to make excuses. I finally went out, and it was just amazing. I would have missed amazing things to photograph. Plus the exercise I got out of it. Thank you for the awesome video. It really spoke about my thoughts and actions.

Thanks for the video, it was the jolt I needed right now. You’re so right about putting things off, it does become like creeping doom. Do the worst thing you have to do first and then the rest of the day seems easier by comparison

I am very happy that I came across your video. Everything you said is so true, just pushing every morning and not getting bored. I am myself a filmmaker and adventure photographer, so when I'm not on a shoot, I sometimes fall down. Thank you very much for your advice.

I've watched you for quite a few years now, and think this is THE BEST video you've done so far. But, I also know you still haven't made YOUR BEST and look forward to continuing to learn from you. You remind me so much of Sean Tucker because you share the same approach to photography, life and creativity. I respect, and thank you both very much!

Great video Dave! Timing is really good also. After the past couple years of self-imposed lockdown because of Covid the committee members in my head had taken over my head! It's just been the past month or so that I've been able to get myself going. About a month ago I had gotten myself, and camera gear, to my favorite waterfall. The water level was a bit low at that time of the year and I was able to position myself in a spot right at the top of the falls to take a shot upstream , sitting on a rock just above the water level so I could shoot underneath a large cedar bow to capture the fall colors up above the falls. I sat there for probably an hour or more working on using your composition and focusing method. I took many exposures focusing in many different spots and using different aperture and shutter speeds. When I was finished and packing my gear up I realized, for the hour or so that I was focused on the beautiful scene before me, it was just me and my camera! All the deflating voices were quiet! What a wonderful feeling! Unexplainable! I thank you for what you started 7 years ago!

I am an engineer and each of your thoughts is exactly the same as mine. My brain needs to create every day, big or small things, but I need to create things that are challenging for me. I have the need to continue learning to continue creating and that is what keeps me alive and happy. The hobby of photography allows me to learn endlessly and create endlessly, I think that's what keeps me hooked. In my humble opinion this is your best video because you have magnificently described everything that goes through my head. I even always start with the task that is more complicated and I never waste time thinking that maybe I won't be able to do it, I just get on with it and the doubts dissipate.

Recognise a lot of what you were saying in your video Dave. My biggest enemy is procrastination but it's a battle that I have strategies for winning. One of them is having time managed plans. For example when I completed an image I was working on, it could be a week before I done anything else photography wise, but now use the time in between edits when I am at home to complete low level photography tasks such as curating my image library or do some work on my website and this provides a pathway back to starting the next edit. I now also have a larger scale project that I have formulated which also keeps my creative desire running in the background as I continue to develop my plan to execute it. Great advice and as always grateful for hearing your inner thoughts

Thanks for the kick in the butt, Dave. It's easy for me to get despondent during western Montana's gloomy winter (think Seattle but. with snow), especially when one suffers from SAD. I think your approach is a great prescription to get through it!! I will implement it tomorrow, or the next. day, or....... Haha - just kidding! :) Doug

What a great message! As a society we are often taught to fear failure, that failure is bad. But the reality is that failure is learning, failure can be good and we shouldn’t let fear of failure keep us from trying something new. But sometimes it’s hard not to fear it, and your advice in this video is a great tool for tackling it. Thanks for your content, I enjoy it because it is so original compared to so much that is out there.

Thanks you for the timeless message, Dave. Years ago my students would procrastinate on projects and then all the feelings you described began to rule their minds. I came across the Pomodoro Technique developed in the late 1980s. We started small. Most agreed they could set a timer for 20-25 minutes and focus on the task at hand. When the timer went off, they were to get up and do something relaxing like go for a jog, throw the ball for the dog whatever. They found that often their mind didn't quit working on the project and ideas surfaced that surprised them. And they could see progress being made over time. I'm not perfect, but I still try to incorporate that idea in my days. It really does help with the guilt and other negatives and the upside are ideas that come and surprise me at the weirdest times.

Usually I find motivational videos, books, etc, to be pretty boring and common sense, but I love your approach. One thing I wanted to point out though is that you said that KZbin isn't a big revenue stream for you. Maybe not directly, but I'm guessing that a lot of your workshop and online school revenue is generated by people who saw your YT videos.
