Sorry, but "Aces" has already been taken by the current WNBA champions. And with the 123-year history of the franchise, the name "Athletics" has historical significance. I will suggest that silver be added to the green and gold, in honor of Nevada being the "Silver State." The A's lame-duck status for 2024 has "1965 Milwaukee Braves" written all over it.

So you're in favor of corporate welfare? T-Mobile Area (VGK) was 100% privately funded. $300M Rogers Centre (Blue Jays) renovations 100% privately funded by Rogers Communications. If a billionaire owner of a private business franchise (MLB team) wants a new ballpark, go ahead and build one playing by the same rules as other businesses in a city. BTW, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao raised $370M in public funds for the new ballpark.

The selling of players wasn't for "new" moneyball players but purely for profit as they paid so little that they made enough money off of revenue sharing to not care if fans came to the stadium. That part was all window dressing, moneyball was to try competitive despite the owners trading off of players.

MO, Oakland has a 0.0001% chance of getting another MLB team in the city. Once the A's move, the city of Oakland will be considered part of the Giants' territory. If you live in the San Francisco / Oakland / San Jose area and want to cheer for a "home" team, it will be the 49ers, Giants, Warriors, and Sharks. Rays get a new ballpark in either St. Pete's or more likely Tampa with Orlando as a fallback. Two new expansion franchises go to Nashville (East) and Salt Lake City (West).

I could see them playing in Sac. Oak seems like a no for obvious reasons even for 24 but they do have a lease through it. If Oak wanted to pivot and position for expansion later, things could work for that maybe but I doubt it. They are likely in Vegas. Rebrand idea is ridiculous. A's are a nine time champ, long history. Great uni's. It works fine with A's.

Lifelong A’s fan and I’m done with them. This was my first sports team that I followed when I was a kid in the late 80’s. I hung with them the last 20 years through all of their moneyball BS and trading away stars years before they hit free agency just because they’ve been extremely cheap. The organization’s playoff performances this century have been downright pathetic. Billy Beane, Kaval and the ownership group is an absolute joke. But yeah I’m done. Baseball hasn’t been good in years anyway (in my opinion).

No I have to take a little different stance here, but first I’ll say I’m a LA Raiders fan who was crushed and hurt when the Raiders moved back to Oakland in 1995. Guess what I did back in 1996 and in the coming years afterward, I cheered for the Raiders (even in Oakland.) Trust me I never considered turning my back on the Raiders, it just meant me and my dad couldn’t go to games in LA anymore.

I told and mentioned to everyone how crushed I was when my Raiders left LA, then moved to Oakland, that’s true and I was crushed, but I was 18 at the time, now today at 46 I have a different perspective per se. If a owner owns a team and he or she wants to change locations, they should be able to without interference. Yes we the fans are committed to our teams remaining where we love them and we 100% should calmly protest it and express it, but it’s Fisher’s franchise, he absolutely should move it, if he’s unhappy there. Now the part where I agree with you 100% on is Fisher shouldn’t need or use public funds for his new stadium. As a matter of fact I’ve even said that many times myself on the internet. Fisher is a billionaire he doesn’t need our funds, but assuming he did. Fisher could’ve also partnered with a numerous amount of people who live in Nevada, so it could’ve been a private sale. Other way to look at it though all Fisher can do is ask the Nevada Legislature for the funds, if the Legislature accepts the request, what can we do?

Somehow I have this feeling it's all bullshit so they can squeeze Oakland dry for that waterfront plot. No 1 thinks this move makes sense especially with the whole 9 acre leased lot. Like what? A's would be in a worse off position. They would be in the exact same position they are already in with Oakland, but a fraction of the land with 9 acres compared to like 120 acres or something insane at the Coliseum. The waterfront land they were gunning for was 55 acres where they wanted to develop. It's hard to see an abandonment of 55 acres to develop with who knows what now thanks to Covid, versus staying a renter. I guess if this actually happens, they have given up on trying to afford their own home because liquidity issues and just want a fancy new condo to rent through the 9 acre plan.

If I was the A's owner. I would build my roof with SOLAR Panels (aka. TSLA's Musk), invest in battery generators and keep my electric bills to the LOWEST in MLB "Like to keep the S's on the field"... Also: 30,000 seats needs to be 36,000....at a minimum. Adding a few acres to the SouthEast of this Tropicana field is DOABLE & would enhance the entire operation IMO!. EXCITED/ (PS runways 19 and 25 really aren't very close to this site!

One of the big pluses of building the stadium on the site of the current Tropicana hotel is … TEARING DOWN THE TROPICANA. The Trop is one of the, if not THE, oldest casino resort on the strip. It has become a real eyesore at Vegas’ busiest intersection with the MGM Grand, New York New York, and the Excalibur. (Bally’s is also very old and an eyesore as well; it needs to be torn down soon too.)

The OLDEST casino on the strip? That title of distinction belongs to the "Flamingo." The "Tropicana" is NOW the 2nd oldest. At least, on the strip. The ORIGINAL Las Vegas casino's, are on Fremont street. A few of them actually date back to the (1910's). They would be "The Golden Gate" Casino, and the "El Cortez."

The Las Vegas Aces are a WNBA team. The Las Vegas 51's were a prior iteration of the minor league team that's been in Vegas for years. They're gonna stick with the A's name. As for Oakland itself? This is it. Once they leave, the Giants will have the entire Bay Area to themselves and they WILL NOT allow another team to come in without a fight.

Maybe he wants to scale back the amendments the legislators added but that's the only reason it passed (besides him dangling other bills he vetoed as a "trade" of sorts). Best case scenario for keeping the A's in Oakland likely lies with Fisher himself being unhappy with all the amendments.

MLB owners could easily block this. Vegas was #1 on the expansion list. If you let Oakland move to Vegas, the owners are losing hundreds of millions in expansion fees. The A's owners are also giving owners in gerneral a bad reputation. The owners have been pretty upset with how things folded out in Oakland.

Manfred who represents them said time again last year: a deal needs to be done. Set a deadline for end of the year. Then into Jan. That had no effect on Oak officials. Just plodded along with we will do it in our own timeline. They want resolution in both Rays and A's ASAP. Oak dragged their feet so A's and MLB just had enough. Pivoted hard to LV.

@@curtis1997 Yes. I doubt it. Oak has a no pubic funds + no urgency even when a set up like that happens at HT. That's a combination that will always lose teams or not get teams. The norm is still very much a private and public funding deal. Look at NFL and MLB, you see that. HT was there to be done with how Oak wanted more so. Finally they had a shot at that. And they simply did not pay attention to MLB screaming last year: get it done! NoW! Oak only gets urgent when the team is one foot or more out the door. Then it's op eds, twitter opps, try for legislation to block. Call Nev officials to bad mouth A's like their mayor did which is unethical to begin with. I'm sure sue is next up.

The presentation given during legislative sessions said 2028. The only loopholes I find left are that: 1) Nowhere in the legislation does it say that the stadium has to be for the A's. 2) The possible relocation bill is so high that Fisher decides not to pay it and cave to the city of Oakland and make a Howard Terminal deal happen. I'm 99.99% sure they're gone. Even if the Howard Terminal plans are more feasible, better publicly funded with the grants that the city got for infrastructure and the grants that are still coming in, and with more area to do whatever the heck you want with, it's a done deal. Fisher was always going to move them, and they would have just found another sucker. The renderings for Vegas are a pipe dream at worst and barely feasible at best. It's going to be quite difficult to fit what they want to do on 9 acres. FOMO at its peak for Vegas.

This has capital asset allocation pump-and-dump written all over it. Wouldn't be surprised if he sells the team before they even play a full season in the new stadium.

@@frankfisher3951yeah it it’s pretty much a done deal at this point, except for the owners meeting, which I don’t anticipate problems there, given that Manfried is completely behind Fisher on this. Believe it or not the only person who can stop it at this point is John Fisher. We will truly get to see if Las Vegas is truly what he wants, at this point it wouldn’t shock me entirely if Fisher is talking to Major Thao in the background getting an Oakland deal done. That last scenario is extremely unlikely, but anything Fisher does wouldn’t surprise me.

@@ronclark9724 Its A 9 acre site, the rendering shown is a lie and very misleading, and the stadium that will be built will be small. Also there are clauses in the $380 m government deal that the casino, which owns the remaining 75% of the site, will not have any benefits from the stadium. So the fact is, this will be the smallest stadium in the MLB when built and I highly doubt they will filll the stadium because 80% of Nevadans polled don't want this. the math is not mathing.

This situation has 2 main people at fault + 1 forgotten one: first is the oakland board + mayor, not giving funds nor land for the construction of a stadium. Second is john fisher who not only didn't spend a dime on the A's, didn't seek private funding when other teams did (warriors). However, the A's fans have some guilt as well: you cannot blame not going to your teams game on a stadium. Was it bad? Yes, should it have been replaced? Yes, however, it is your team, i dont care about the stadium. You should care that your team is playing, not the ammenities of the stadium. One of the local soccer clubs of my city has a stadium built in the 1930s, which has never been renovated, and they have had higher attendance than the A's in every season since the 1980s

No A's fans are staying home because of the stadium. We aren't going because the ownership has done everything they can to show us we're not welcome. Fisher's playbook is: sell the players, raise the prices on tickets and parking by 200%, don't staff the facility, and then blame the fans publicly. It's Major League in real life. The fans have been forgotten and taken for granted by Fisher and MLB. Blaming the fans is not taking into account the context.

The reserve boycott was very cool, but that number of people should be there every game, and not 7k people. One game is not enough. If ownership is terrible, prove to everyone that you are worth more than the owners and care more than the owners. The colombus crew situation in the MLS is a perfect example of this: a team which had already been approved a move to austin, but people designed a whole stadium, a whole area around it and even found a hidden law preventing the move. I don't see this type of movement in oakland. Oakland has a lot of fans, but where are these fans? Why dont they show up in the other 81 games of the season?

It's not simply the threat to leave. It's the deliberate attempt to keep fans away via price increases, service reductions, and abusing the MLB revenue sharing and not investing in the team or community. This has been going on for 20+ years. We had playoff teams along the way in spite of ownership, not because of it. Fans showed up even in down years. It's fun to crap on Oakland and the fans, but it is the wrong angle. Pointing the finger at fans is absurd.

Minor league teams do NOT buy or trade players, their MLB team affiliation does. Maybe fair weather Oakland fans ask too much for a small market team. If you won't support a team without the Dodgers payroll, then support the Dodgers. Minor league fans take for granted the roster at the start of the season will NOT be the same roster by the end of the season, sometimes not even one player lasts one season...

Every team goes through rough patches, but I don’t think every fanbase has been intentionally alienated by its owners. The only reason any A’s fan would root for the Dodgers is because the Giants are a mutual enemy. It might be petty, but when there’s not much joy in the fan experience, you take what you can get. I don’t know how to further emphasize that A’s fans are not fair weather and we are not staying home because the team is bad. We have bad teams with regularity. We’re used to it. I’ve been going to games for 35 years and been to three so far this year, from further away than I’ve ever lived, and I don’t care if they win. I care that ownership does what it can do, even in bad years, to cultivate an organization and fan community. The current leadership is deliberately tearing that down.

I grew up in a American League area(Dallas-Ft. Worth area) fan with the Texas Rangers and I hate that the owner of the A's is taking Oakland's last Major 5 sports team to Vegas. If they move I would have to wait about every 3 years or so for the Rangers to come to San Francisco and Oracle Park to play the Giants.

I highly doubt the A's will play at the Coliseum in 2024 as it's such a bad look for the league. Oakland will likely be paid a large break fee by the A's for early termination of the lease agreement. It's not like an NFL team staying an extra season with 8 home dates. This would be another 81 games.

As a Southern California resident Dodgers stadium is in an isolated ugly mountain area with the police academy near it and it’s infested with police speed traps 🪤 Angels Stadium used to have one of the biggest homeless encampments near it, They could have built in near Newport Beach but it still remains in the 100 degree zone during the summer with no sea breeze at all So I would rather go see the Padres at Petco field where you get an ocean breeze and all of gaslamp district to walk around and enjoy OR now once they complete the A’s stadium in Las Vegas, I get an air conditioned stadium so we don’t suffer the heat during the summer And we have the Las Vegas strip and no open container laws to enjoy
