As someone with depression, these depression stick ads are incredibly distasteful, disgusting, and condescending. I have looked into the research myself, and while there is a link between depression and vaping, there is no explicit evidence to show cause and effect. For all we know, people who vape are more likely to have depression because they’re turning to vaping as a coping mechanism. It’s not a good coping mechanism, but vaping isn’t proven to be the CAUSE of their depression necessarily. These ads imply that it’s someone’s own fault that they are depressed and quite frankly everyone involved in making these ads should be ashamed of themselves.

I think the problem, at least with vape products, is that the initial appeal was the idea that it was a less harmful alternative to smoking, but recent research (and a handful of health crises) have proven that they might even be WORSE. And, actually, Truth Orange has been giving information about the harms of tobacco products for years, long before vape products were even a thing. The point of these videos, as well as the TV ads, is to give you the information in a way that will actually hold your attention, rather than a health class lecture. Once you have said information, what you do with it is totally up to you, but at least the decisions you make will be informed ones. *edit* punctuation

I’ve been working in the vape industry for roughly 5 years. Vaped for about 5 years before I got into the vape industry. So roughly 10 years total vaping. Have not vaped or used any nicotine for roughly a year now and speaking from my personal experience, nicotine without a doubt gives you scattered thoughts and increases anxiety. It’s difficult to tell when you already have scattered thoughts and are physically and mentally addicted to nicotine. It’s a nice little trick your mind likes to play on you. I can assure you vaping does not help with your anxiety or depression.

They are continually tried to correlate depression and anxiety with smoking but the thing that most sites say about it is that the people who use nicotine are more likely to have depression or anxiety. Funny thing is they don’t say anything about them having depression or anxiety already and then started using nicotine to help. Nicotine has worked better for me than the anti anxiety/anti depression meds I was on. I would rather not be dependent on it but I don’t want to dependent or other chemicals either. People who use nicotine likely do so because they were already feeling the effects of depression and anxiety and wanted some relief.
