DER MODERNE TIMES / ROXANNA ALDAY TRIBUTE

DER MODERNE TIMES was the Alternative music Fanzine for the Denver Colorado area in the mid 1980s. Founded by Michael M (Private Sector, Soul Merchants) and Steve Bruner (Private Sector, Jerry's Records) the 'zine gained popularity almost immediately. It filled a void as the only outlet for musicians of that scene to promote, read about themselves and share with other like minded groups the idea of a community. Although the publication only lasted less than a year (10 total issues) and had a small ink press run of about 400, they were snapped up quickly with each anticipated release. Soon after the second issue Roxanna Alday (RX) a former Westword journalist, joined the duo bringing legitimate writing skills to the fold. RX can be heard on this You Tube Video speaking about the Denver scene on KAIR Radio Denver. Alday passed away last August (2010) and will be remembered for her strong support for bands and musicians of that era. After the 3rd issue comic artist Tom Motley joined the ensemble bringing ultra creative front covers and inner art that added a stunning dimension to a fanzine format. Here for this on line tribute, backing the Audio portion of Alday's interview is highlighted by a collage of groups from that time period:
Acid Ranch, Bop Street, Tony Roam, Soul Merchants, Alarming Trends, The Hendersons, The Fluid, Jinx Jones, Jux County, Boi, and Mau Mau 55. All these groups had a definitive style and were covered to some degree at one time or another in DMT. Alday later went on to produce NADA a equally interesting 'zine which opened more doors for Denver musicians on a national level. A picture collage of all the issues Nov.84 - Sept.85 round up this tribute to a unforgettable time in Denver Colorados music history.

RIP RA. She was a great advocate for what in retrospect was an interesting, diverse, if somewhat fractured Denver music scene in the mid-1980s. And Der Modern Times was a must read. Are you sure this interview was from KAIR? I think it was from a campus/student station at CU in Boulder.
